officemax needs to update their website. It is unacceptable to not be able to link to pages or items directly. The reason they do this is because every vistor has a session associated with them and if you copy and paste a link and somoene else opens it than your session will have expired since it is from a different browser.

amazon does a good job of tacking on the session information to the URL and still allowing you to link to items if you edit that session information or even include the session information by mistake the link still works I think.

for instance:

FULL URL WITH SESSION
http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/0765301679/ref=pd_qpf_gw/102-4536452-6729731

EDITED URL W/O SESSION
http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/0765301679/

both still work.

This little bit on the end is cookie information,
" ref=pd_qpf_gw/102-4536452-6729731 "

Am I understanding how amazon works correctly?
