hey,
i do not know exactly how to fix this problem, but there may be several things you can do to try and fix it. but firstly, what happened when you connected it to the computer?, did you start dmm?.

Yep, first thing i did was start Dmm...
It asked if to fix the library, and i said yes.
It went through, after it I could transfer files into player. But when i disconnected from PC it shown same "!" icon.
Today, what is realy weird, it starts up, sees all my media, even play one song, but when it wants to change to another song (shuffle on) it hangs up... (you can hear disc spinning). Or it doesn't start, only "Philips" sign shows and player hangs up
I upgrated firmware, but it didn't help.
:( Help :(

The ! means firmware cannot load or can't be found. Connect to your pc but dont try to run DMM. With Windows explorer, look for the philips drive and look in the 'System' folder. You should see the Philips.mi4 firmware file. I would delete it and place a new copy of Philips.mi4 file in this folder manually. DMM firmware update just moves it there for you. It should be on your pc in program files..Philips...Philips Digital Media Manager folder. once done, disconnect then restart the player. Download a new firmware file if you have to... Yours may be corrupted.

I did as you told me, but there's no change :(
I'm getting sick of the firmware icon error.
Is there a possibility to format player and install whole software?
If yes, than where can I get this software, and how to format the player (just format: [dics nr])??
And can it help??

Formatting the player may help. To format in windows just right click on the drive in My Computer and click on format. Make sure it uses FAT32 and doesn't install system files. If there are problems you might as well not do a quick format. Then once this is done, download the current firmware and start dmm. It will say it needs to fix the database, let it, and then install the current firmware.
Best to upload about 5 songs, and then unplus it (safely) and check everythings in working order before putting your entire collection on there.

Nah, even formatting didn't help...
Maybe some other ideas??
I spotted sth: at the back of player it is written hdd120/17, but Windows says hdd100 in Explorer window...
Oh, and I wonder what for is a "del.exe" file in the dawnloaded firmware???

Hi, I have an HDD100 and HDD070. The 100 works fine, but the 070 has the same problem you are experiencing. No matter how many times I reformat & reinstall the the firmware I still get the '!' icon after the player is diconnected from the PC. I suspect the player still cannot read the firmware for some reason and I was interested to read that you should be able to see the player system file when connected to a PC. Although I can transfer mp3's to my player, I cannot see any files on the drive. Is there a method of viewing the player system files that I have missed?

I can now view the system files of my HDD070 by right clicking on the drive icon (it's 'G' in my case when connected to the PC) and highlighting "open as media device". The same process however, doesn't seem to work for my HDD100 as there is no option to open as....which I guess is the same for your HDD120. The small players must use a different setup.

I was having problems with my sons HDD120 freezing and called the Phillips support centre - they arranged a courier to pick up the player the same day and either repair/replace it, they will the arrange for a courier to return to me. Will let you know how I get on.
