In terms of features, this new preamplifier/processor/tuner is a significant upgrade to the previous preamplifier/processor/tuner in Anthem's lineup, the AVM 2. Notable among the improvements are the additional full function zone, additional processing channels to support THX® Surround EX, improved video switching and digital-to-analog converters, selectable direct analog audio inputs, full bass management of 6 channel analog inputs to support DVD-A or multi-channel SACD, and analog input to digital output conversion.
The AVM 20 uses the newest and most powerful Motorola Digital DNA 56366 DSP engine, capable of operating at 120 million instructions per second. The implementation of this chip into the company's very own state-of-the-art modular 2-pcb DSP is claimed to result in breathtaking sonic performance.
The AVM 20's capability to perform full bass management on all DVD Audio and multi-channel SACD recordings is a very nice feature. Until now, many home theater processors that offer analog direct bypass connections for these audio formats do not enable the user to control the low and high pass crossover frequencies, speaker setup sizes, and subwoofer settings.
The AVM 20 is also one of the very few processors that support 1080p progressive scan High Definition video switching. This is a result of its ultra wide bandwidth video switching section (up to 100 MHz).
The AVM 20 is THX® Ultra certified and includes both Home THX® Cinema and THX® Surround EX for up to 7.1 channels of sound. All of the analog outputs are provided in both Balanced XLR and single-ended RCA connections.
The US retail price of the Anthem AVM 20 is $3199.
