The upcoming craze in the PC market are the new Tablet PC's. We have heard of tablet PC's from Hewlett Packard, Compaq and Fujitsu. Well, Viewsonic is entering the tablet PC market as well with their new ViewPad 1000 Tablet PC. You are probably as surprised as we are to hear Viewsonic entering this untested market. After taking a look at this new tablet PC, I can tell you that it has features and looks going for it so far.
This Tablet PC is packed with features and is almost seems like more of a concept PC than the one we presented last week from Intel and HP. Well this is no concept and you will be able to purchase one soon.
The Viewsonic ViewPad 1000 features an Intel Celeron 800 MHz processor and the Microsoft Windows 2000 operating system. The View pad 1000 Tablet PC even has built in WAN, LAN and Wi-Fi Wireless LAN abilities. There are many accessories available including a mini optical mouse, wireless keyboard and extra batteries.
The features do not stop there however. There is also a 10.4" high resolution touch screen monitor with a Digital CCD Camera running at 15 fps for streaming videos and photos - built in. My only wish is that they went with a faster processor and possibly a Windows XP or Linux operating system.
Will Tablet PC's take off on the market or will they be another flop similar to the internet appliances? With heavy hitters like Compaq, HP, Fujitsu followed by smaller companies like Viewsonic, it looks like everyone is betting on their success. Look for a full review on Designtechnica soon.
