A European company named Ellula used NXT's SurfaceSound technology to create inflatable speakers. They're exactly that. the small base contains the speaker, then the walls of the inflatable speaker work to radiate that sound. You'd need two for stereo sound.
Because of the inflatable nature of these speakers, they could be shaped into pretty much anything. Already, there are speakers in the shape of Budweiser cans. Who knows, the next speaker you see could be shaped like a penguin!
Another advantage of being inflatable is these speakers, when deflated, become extremely portable. They would be great for laptops and notebooks, because they would fit easily into any laptop bag.
