The PS3 will cost $399, so I expect this to cost about the same, maybe a little cheaper.

I would be seriously suprised if it came in below $399.
BTW welcome to the Designtechnica forums, and you have a killer sig!
If Xbox comes in Below price..
Its for either of 2 reasons..
1, Snag the market...First come First served.. try to take away the market from the others, by being FIRST, and lower priced.
2, as mentioned awhile back...Xbox was thinking of at least 3-6 versions of the hardware... Set the Lowest one out for BAIT, and grab abit of the market, and RUn like Hell.. after the buyers find out they bought the Cheapo version..

iam thinking of finally getting a console again when the next gen systems are released, i brought the dreamcast and loved that, but look what happened to that.
all i want now is full backwards compatibility with the first xbox and iam sold on a 360
anyone have any news on this, i believe they were only going to only have backwards compatibility with top selling titles only

The Xbox 360 will NOT have full backwards compatibility, it will only be compatible with a few older games (where the code has been rewritten) like Halo and Halo 2. Remember, the old Xbox is using an Nvidia graphics chip and an Intel CPU. The 360 is using an ATI graphics chip and and an IBM CPU.
The PS3 and Nintendo Revolution will be 100% fully-backwards compatible though.

Well i bought an Xbox 3 years ago and had a collection of about 20 games, but started to loose interest with console gaming the last year. My box and games were stolen this year, and i really didn't even care so, i probably will not be a loyalist to any specific brand...

If that is the case i'm holding off until they come with the motherload, unless the early stock version is upgradeable manually :dunno
if not i will stick with pc gaming on my almost now inferior P4 540 HT proccessor and see how far it take me with updated video cards

I would just wait and see what happens at launch. My money is on Sony though (and I am a Microsoft MVP :X)
Still wish they would just make a mini comp, thats upgradeable..
