In a filing submitted today with the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) regarding digital broadcast copy protection, the Consumer Electronics Association (CEA) emphasized the importance of preserving normal consumer expectations under any digital copy protection regime. The FCC currently is reviewing proposals related to digital copy protection, which could include encryption technologies or a "broadcast flag" approach intended to secure digital content transmissions.

It would have been nice if the CEA did this some time ago. Then companies like SonicBlue would have had more leverage in their battle against HollyWood. I would be curious to see the number of people that use DVR/PVR's to record programs. I would also like to see a graph which showed viewership numbers of people watching television over the last 10 years up to today's date. Do you think less people are watching TV or more?
I am willing to bet there are less people watching television. I remember watching an interview with a network station exec and he said their numbers were falling and they decided to add reality shows to their station to boost ratings. This is pretty sad that garbage attracks people. But in any case, we as consumers should be allowed to edit out commercials or skip over them in our recordings.
