I need some opinions on the state of my hdd 120/17b.

I just stuck the power cord in the power jack and a wisp of gray smoke came out of the line-in jack. I pulled the power jack out and now the top of the player has a burnt smell. The player played ok but when I put the power cord back in the battery symbol never goes away. I doesn't appear to be getting a charge.

Does anyone know if this is fixable? If so, is this something Philips would do? I have a warranty from best buy but would like to have this one continue working (at least long enough to get anything important removed).

Opinions?

Thanks, Jim

WELL,
2 things could of happened..
1. the Power aupply Shorted at the 120/17...at the jack/input..
2. in burned out the Plug/voltage regulator inside the 120/17..

I dont have the unit, so I will suggest you get a voltage tester, and test the tranformer DC voltage. If there is voltage, you MAY have a problem..
Odds are you wont be able to Charge the unit.

IF there ISNT voltage, or (move the plug around) it sparks, thats a NEW transformer.
Not to bad..
