I'm here at my fathers house and he has been having a problem with these popup's from "Aurora - part of the ABI network". I have come to designtechnica for previous issues with certain spyware I can't seem to remove so I was hoping you guys can give me a hand in removing these damn popup's off this machine. Here is the log from hijackthis and tell me what you think I should have removed & fixed.

-Thanks :-)

This can be hard to kill but we can give it a try. If we get nowhere I would suggest bring it to computer repairman who can actually see whats going on.

One thing you should know, I am a computer technician :). I still come here for support though for some things I don't like to mess with without somebody that is very experienced with "hijackthis" program.

Another thing you should know that the file "ercwcy.exe" from the c:\windows\system32\ directory did not exist. The closest thing I've gotten to that name is "ERCWCY.EXE-1DAD5DC9.pf" that exists in (C:\Windows\Prefetch).

Coming back online to Internet Explorer to come to this forum website, still the (Aurora) website popped up unfortunatly, but here is the new log after all the instructions you told me.

This is new Spyware and I've had trouble with some of the logs that have this problem. So if you can figure it out please let me know what works so I can help others.

Here is a great HijackThis Tutorial. For anyone interested in this program should read this.

http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/index.php?showtutorial=42

One thing this Spyware does is change names. Remember this file on the first log

c:\windows\system32\ercwcy.exe
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [aiynul] c:\windows\system32\ercwcy.exe r

Now it looks like this on your latest log

c:\windows\system32\hyzjqnr.exe
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [eprgdc] c:\windows\system32\hyzjqnr.exe r

changes names :eww

Nail.exe

This is part of the problem. Heres some info on it

http://www.liutilities.com/products/wintaskspro/processlibrary/nail/

F2 - REG:system.ini: Shell=Explorer.exe C:\WINDOWS\Nail.exe

I usually get an unknown entry like this one also, most likely a trojan or something.

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [ljwzbi] C:\WINDOWS\System32\ljwzbi.exe

Last but not least another bad guy

svcproc.exe

O23 - Service: System Startup Service (SvcProc) - Unknown owner - C:\WINDOWS\svcproc.exe

http://www.liutilities.com/products/wintaskspro/processlibrary/svcproc/

Ive had a little success using HijackThis in a different way

1. Reboot to Safe Mode, unplug internet
2. Open Up Hijack This
3. Click the Do A System Scan Only Button
4. Click the Config button on the bottom right corner
5. Click Misc Tools on the top right

6.Click Delete File on Reboot button and a box should open up.

Find the file nail.exe then click the open button. A window will ask you if you want to reboot now click no

Then find the file svcproc.exe then click the open button. A window will ask you if you want to reboot now click no

Then find the file hyzjqnr.exe r(if you can)then click the open button. A window will ask you if you want to reboot now click no

Find the file ljwzbi.exe then click the open button. A window will ask you if you want to reboot now click yes.

Plug the internet back in and Reboot to normal mode and post a new log..........Jim

The rest of the log looks ok. If this works let me know or if you come up with a solution that works let me know so I can help others........Jim :eww

Hey nightowl, that son of a ***** file kept renaming itself and I kept finding the new file that it was renaming itself to. After doing delete while reboot, then after the reboot I did another system scan. I found the new file name. I selected it and clicked on fix checked. Then right after that I went to the Misc Tools to "delete file on reboot". I successfully found the file name and selected it to delete it.

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [eprgdc] c:\windows\system32\hyzjqnr.exe r

that was the file you asked me to check for which I did not find because like you said, the file keeps renaming. I have found another file that looked extremly similiar with that "r" at the end that I bolded for you. I think that was some kind of way that I have recognized that file overall the rest of the files. So I went and searched for it. And I deleted it. After rebooting and connecting back to the internet I went to go on a website and there was no popup from Aurora. Later on in the day I'll tell you if I recieve another popup from those b@stards again.

When I bootup it says that windows cannot find C:\Windows\Nail.exe or something like that, obviously because we removed it from the machine. It does not exist but in the logfile it shows that somehow it still exists. I went to go check in the folder myself but it was not there. Anyways here is the new log from hijackthis. Maybe you might find something else that I should remove, or not (hopefully) :-)

I'll have to do some research on this when I get some time. I noticed on your last log that the entry has a missing file but still shows on the hijackthis log.

O23 - Service: System Startup Service (SvcProc) - Unknown owner - C:\WINDOWS\svcproc.exe (file missing)

thats good.

Did you try the Delete file on reboot option?

1. Reboot to Safe Mode
2. Open Up Hijack This
3. Click the Do A System Scan Only Button
4. Click the Config button on the bottom right corner
5. Click Misc Tools on the top right

6.Click Delete File on Reboot button and a box should open up.
Find the file with the r at the end then click the open button. A window will ask you if you want to reboot now click yes

7. Reboot to normal mode and post a new log........Jim

Try renaming it also, thats worked in the past. change the .exe to .old or .txt then delete it. thats worked in the past.

After analyzing what you directed me to do. I went to do just what you requested. When I went to rename the file you requested me to mess with. Which this is the new one.

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [lsehzd] c:\windows\system32\xcvtqh.exe r

It said that it cannot be renamed because it is being used by another person or program. I checked the processes.

*Pic here was taken in regular Windows, but to mention to you that I saw the same thing and did everything you said in Safe Mode*

http://www.10100.org/files/matrix/xcvtqh.JPG

When I went to end the process, the file in the folder (C:\Windows\system32) has disappeared when I ended the process. Leading me to not letting it allow me to rename the file.

I then did a rescan on hijackthis to check the new file with the "r" at the end of it. That current file I saw in hijackthis then was running in the processes window in the Windows Task Manager.

Also Nail.exe in (C:\Windows\) has shown up again. I went to go delete it, it disappeared but yet it recreated itself seconds later. Do you think these 2 files are working together as a team? I tried renaming, deleting as quick as I could but no luck. Within miliseconds these 2 files exist and cannot be removed. I did a Scan on norton antivirus to check to see if I had a virus. But none was found. Here is the new log before I went and deleted that file "xcvtqh.exe".

I think that file (xcvtqh.exe) might make those other things you requested me to remove might come back in the future. Those

"R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Search Bar = http://websearch.drsnsrch.com/sidesearch.cgi?id="

They are not in the log now, but they might in the future. Here is the log that I currently have right now to show you.

While I was logging into this website thinking about this problem A message from my Microsoft AntiSpyware program popped up telling me new definitions have been installed.

Maybe that program will work on this. Its worth a try I guess.

http://forums.designtechnica.com/showthread.php?t=5583

Make sure definitions are up to date. Run it in Safe Mode, See if it comes up with anything.........Jim

I'm willing to try anything at this point. :eww

Alright I downloaded that program you told me to grab. I updated it then I disconnected myself from the internet. I went ahead and booted up to Windows Safe Mode.

Scanned it and thank god it found it! (hoping it will be away forever.)

Here is the screenshot of the hour.

*Ignore the date on the scan, I changed it for one other particular reason*

http://www.10100.org/files/matrix/mighthaveworked.JPG

When coming to this forum I went to take a peek at my taskbar. (To see if Aurora pop's up).

The second I looked at it the Aurora window popped up, then that second just disappeared!!!

I realized I had the program "Microsoft - Antispyware" Active Icon by my clock on the taskbar. My only guess is that it blocked that b*tch and it didn't give it the opportunity to pop on my screen! (Which is good!). Although hopefully something in the future will make it disappear all together!

In time since this is some kind of new spyware it will sometime be outsmarted by one of the companies that kill spyware. It's there speciality. I'll keep up with checking this forum post often like usual and we'll keep talking about this new Aurora bu11sh!t.

I appreciate your time in helping me out so far. Anyway this is kind of fun hehe, the wonder of it disappearing is kind of exciting after every reboot I do. (I have to admit, we are nerds.) :cheers

Well at least they must be looking at it. I'm sure they will find a fix for it sooner or later(sooner the better)

Post a log, Lets see what it looks like........Jim

Looks like its still there. Lets see if we have the same luck here as I did with the other log.

Unplug the internet from your computer
Reboot To Safe Mode (tap F8 on Startup)

Delete this file

c:\windows\system32\prnjuu.exe

Still In Safe Mode Open up Hijack This and Place a check next to each of these and click Fix Checked.

F2 - REG:system.ini: Shell=Explorer.exe C:\WINDOWS\Nail.exe
O3 - Toolbar: (no name) - {2CDE1A7D-A478-4291-BF31-E1B4C16F92EB} - (no file)
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [zftkqy] c:\windows\system32\prnjuu.exe r

Still In Safe Mode Delete all Temporary Internet Files, Cookies, Run Microsoft AntiSpyware again, delete what it finds , Empty recycle bin.

Plug the internet back in and Reboot to normal mode and post a new log..........Jim

I noticed that the 023 is gone now, also the unidentified trojan that was there before. Only the one with the r and nail.exe is left. So maybe we are getting somewhere(knock on wood)

Cant remove that file because its running. It's in the Processes in Windows Task Manager remember? So anyways the new file is here in the new log.. Barely nothing has changed. I just might say f*ck it in about 1-2 days and just reformat this damn machine.

Can you end the process through Task Manager?

Right Click Bottom taskbar, Click Task Manager,Click Processes, Highlight the bad files then click End Process.

See if that works.......Jim

When you end the process on the file. The file already disappears in the system32 folder and rename's itself. Once it's messed with it recreates itself and run's another .exe in the processes. Everytime you stop it it changes names and turns back on. Pretty crazy stuff..

This one can be hard to kill. Its wierd on some logs it goes away pretty easily, then on others it wont go away. Whoever put this out there should be thrown in jail........Jim
