Ok who saw it what did you think?
PARTIAL SPOILER DON"T READ BELOW
What about how Nolan redid the part when Bruce's parents get shot, so that it is not Joker this time that kills him, but some other guy? It seems like Nolan is restarting the entire franchise over again. I wonder if this version is based off a set of comics that I haven't read yet. Anyone a big enough Batman fan to fill us in on the differences between this movie and the different comic books that exist?

Tim Burton did not do Batman Begins, Christopher Nolan did. I don't think he was trying to reinvent the franchise, but maybe start it over. This is definately the best Batman yet.

Yup. Saw this movie over the weekend, and it ROCKS. This is the first Batman that I anticipated seeing months in advance. And not just because Christian Bale is in it (although I have to admit, that was a BIG reason). :P
Seeing the genesis (at least Nolan's version) of the whole legend was really cool.

Christian Bale is my favorite actor right now. Everyone keeps telling me to check out American Psycho, but I heard it is a pretty gorey movie, so I just don't know! Anyone ever seen Equilibrium? Christian Bale was in that movie. It was kind of corny, but he still did great in it though.

Hmm, I haven't seen Equilibrium--will have to check that one out. The Machinist is on my list, too--I heard it was one of the strongest performances last year.
Bale's career choices have been interesting--he definitely hasn't embraced blockbuster films (except possibly the remake of Shaft) so Batman Begins may be his vehicle to megastardom. He's done some cool, offbeat films--anyone seen Reign of Fire? That one's a lot of fun--a very low-tech kinda sci-fi fantasy about battling dragons. If you haven't seen Velvet Goldmine or Laurel Canyon, they're both worth a look.
He also appeared in the all-star version of Shakespeare's Midsummer Night's Dream that came out about two years ago--I loved it, but hey it's not everyone's cup of tea.
I think Bale's a really good actor, but I have to be honest: for moi, part of the joy of watching him is purely aesthetic. (Especially when he takes off his shirt...) :drool

omg you are too funny!
Yeah, like I said he is one of my favorite actors. I actually like Tom Cruise a lot too. I will have to check out Velvet Goldmine or Laurel Canyon.
One question about Batman Begins (spoiler dont read) you know the calling card at the end, does that mean there will be a sequel, or is that meant to tie into Time Burton's first Batman movie?

LOL I think he is definately eye candy! I watched American Psycho when it first came out and he was really buff in American Psycho (nice defined abs)...but the movie is gorey, so beware if that turns you off. I will have to check out Equilibrium.
I too saw him in Midsummer Night's Dream, and liked the movie too...it's one of my favorite plays by Shakespeare.

Hmm I was wondering if they might try to make any more after this, too--I did think that the calling card was meant to tie into the first installation. But maybe this won't be the last episode they make (hopefully staring Christian Bale!)-guess we'll have to wait and find out.
Precious-yep I have seen American Psycho, and it was not really my thing. I realize they were going for the macabre, and that it was meant to be tongue-in-cheek, but still-a bit much for me. I thought the end, when he was falling apart, was so absurd but also fitting, and very well done by Christian.

In case anyone is interested, the version of A Midsummer Night's Dream that he appears in is on tonight on IFC. You guys do get IFC out in the Pacific Northwest, don't you?

prepare yourself when you watch the Machinist, he went though a major transformation in that film and lost a hell of alot of wieght fot that movie, he certaainly must have alot of dedication to go though such a huge change for the movie
Equilibrium and the Machinist are the only 2 bale films i have seen and i enjoyed them bother , batmans defo next on my list and ill try catch some of the other films mentioned

I have seen clips of The Machinist, he looks super scary skinny.

Yeah, I have seen ads for it too, he looks almost skeletal. I have heard it's a great performance though, it's on my list.
I watched Velvet Goldmine again the other night--I think I liked it better the second time-- I had more of an appreciation for some of the artistic subtleties lol. The Citizen Kane nod wasn't obvious to me at first, but I picked up on it the second time with Bale's character (playing a reporter). I have to say though that Ewan McGregor (sort of a cross between Iggy Pop and Kurt Cobain) steals every scene he's in LOL.
