Pop-Ups killing me!

Can anyone help me get rid of these pop-ups? I've done different scans and tried to use hijackthis but I don't know what I'm looking for. Any help and some teaching would be great!

Download The Stand Alone Version of CW Shredder,Spybot, AdAware, (Links Above)

You may want to print this out
Unplug the internet from your computer
Reboot To Safe Mode (tap F8 on Startup)

Delete this file

C:\WINDOWS\system32\ntsmod.exe

Still In Safe Mode Open up Hijack This and Place a check next to each of these and click Fix Checked.

Still In Safe Mode Delete all Temporary Internet Files, Cookies, Run CW Shredder, AdAware and Spybot,delete what they find , Empty recycle bin.

Plug the internet back in and Reboot to normal mode and post a new log..........Jim

Unplug the internet from your computer
Reboot To Safe Mode (tap F8 on Startup)

Open up Hijack This and Place a check next to each of these and click Fix Checked.

Still In Safe Mode Delete all Temporary Internet Files, Cookies, Microsoft AntiSpyware,delete what it finds , Empty recycle bin.

Plug the internet back in and Reboot to normal mode and post a new log..........Jim

Hi Jim,

Here are some new logfiles. The first is from safemode and the second is from normal mode. I was going to delete what you suggested, noticed that one was not there and there was a different one, and checked both safe and normal. Both have different 020s. Safe is first, normal is second. Anything there?

are probably the same problem. One thing this does is change file names. Its always best to post your log in normal mode. It seems to tell me more.

Unplug the internet from your computer
Reboot To Safe Mode (tap F8 on Startup)


Delete these Files and or Folders

C:\WINDOWS\icont.exe
C:\WINDOWS\system32\msts32.exe

Still In Safe Mode Open up Hijack This and Place a check next to each of these and click Fix Checked.

I've deleted a few found items but the pop-ups are still coming. I can't get rid of any o20 and everytime I fix it, there's a new one with a small variation as to the filename. Here's the newest log, any ideas? Thanks again,

I think you have the latest version of VX2. Download L2mfix from one of these two locations:

Save the file to your desktop and double click l2mfix.exe. Click the Install button to extract the files and follow the prompts, then open the newly added l2mfix folder on your desktop. Double click l2mfix.bat and select option #1 for Run Find Log by typing 1 and then pressing enter. This will scan your computer and it may appear nothing is happening, then, after a minute or 2, notepad will open with a log. Copy the contents of that log and paste it into this thread.

IMPORTANT: Do NOT run option #2 OR any other files in the l2mfix folder until you are asked to do so!

Close any programs you have open since this step requires a reboot.

From the l2mfix folder on your desktop, double click l2mfix.bat and select option #2 for Run Fix by typing 2 and then pressing enter, then press any key to reboot your computer. After a reboot, your desktop and icons will appear, then disappear (this is normal). L2mfix will continue to scan your computer and when it's finished, notepad will open with a log. Copy the contents of that log and paste it back into this thread, along with a new hijackthis log.

IMPORTANT: Do NOT run any other files in the l2mfix folder unless you are asked to do so!

That looks good. We've got rid of one major pain the butt infection.
I'm glad to hear from you again. I was begining to think something had gone wrong and you computer had exploded!

I am going to be out of town for the weekend so I am goning to leave you back in nightowl's capable hands.


I noticed from your earilier logs that you are running Hijack this from a temp file, or mayby directly from the .zip

It needs to run from it's own directrory so it can correctly keep backups of the changes we make.
Your copy of HijackThis needs to be in a folder of it's own. When HJT fixes anything, it makes backups of the original files in the folder it is in. For this reason it cannot be run from a Zip file or from Temporary folders because the backups will be deleted. Having the backups could be VITAL to restoring your system if something went wrong in the FIX process!


Please go to you're 'My Documents' folder, right-click and select 'New > Folder' then name the folder 'HJT'.

2. Copy and paste HijackThis.exe to the new folder.

3. Close ALL windows except HJT

4. SCAN with HJT

5. POST the new log in this thread using 'Add Reply'

DO NOT MAKE ANY CHANGES OR CLICK "FIX CHECKED" UNTIL WE CHECK THE LOG, AS SOME OF THE FILES ARE LEGIT AND VITAL TO YOUR COMPUTER'S HEALTH
