Hi
I have recently encounterd many problems with my HDD100. I have had it for 6 months and this is the 1st problem with it. The other night it was taking ages to load songs up, eventually i just did a soft reset and left it. I turned it on the next day and all the songs were corrupted!
I plugged it into the computer and DMM showed that 25% of the space was used but it showed no songs. I tried to access it through explorer and it never loaded the songs. So I decided to format it, after downloading the latest firmware (version 6.6) and also the latest DMM (version 2.2) I started putting my music back on.
After a while I went to listen to some of it and it got stuck on the philips start up screen, again I plugged it in and DMM and explorer failed to load anything up. I formatted again and the same happend after loading a couple of albums on to it.
So thats the story, can anybody please help me???
I cant take it back because it was baught off ebay by the way!

Try running fdisk on it, start, run, cmd [enter]. fdisk c: (replace C for the drive letter for hdd100) /f [enter]

Sounds like the hard disk might be failing :/ If you listen closely to it just before it crashes, can you hear a faint 'tick tick tick' ? that's what mine does even when i turn it on.

Yes it making ticking sounds and sometimes stops all activity and then starts again

It sounds like the hard disk has packed in. Mine also made the "tick tick tick" noise, and had problems playing some of the tracks, before not getting past the "Philips" screen at all. Luckily I went and got it replaced. You should try speaking to the ebay seller about it, you never know!

Sounds like this is a common problem with these players and philips wont accept any responsibility or repair them for free.(they want £135.00!!) It cant simply be a hard disk problem because the same disk was used in the Ipod. . I have complained to their head office and will keep people informed of what happens

It cant simply be a hard disk problem because the same disk was used in the Ipod.

Not exactly the same, the Ipod models were specially made for Apple and have the Apple logo on them. (the only diff may just be the way the partitioning with firmware being on a seperate partition).

Also, there are alot of ppl that have had their ipod hdd's die, but more often i've seen it has been a problem from physical damage (i.e. dropping it).

Good luck, keep us informed of any updates. I too purchased my HDD100 from ebay and can't return it (dead hdd) >.<

After about a month and a half I have finally got a working MP3 player.
The good thing for me was that the bloke I bought it off actually runs a computer shop so he took it back as it was still under garuntee, sent it to philips and they sent a new one as a replacement!

Anyway now my in line remote lead no longer plays music in the left earphone!!!
Anybody know where I can get a replacement because that remote is so useful to me.
Thanks
