It looks good and since its directed by Steven I am sure all the trailers are not just showing the best parts of the movie either.
I probably won't go see it and just get/rent the DVD in a few months...I am not impressed with Tom Cruise lately. While watching it, I will be distracted thinking his character will somehow say he loves Katie somewhere in the movie...very distracting.

lol Precious. I am not impressed with Tom Cruise lately due to his personal life either, but he is a great actor still IMO. I am a Sci-Fi junky, so I am pretty stoked about this. ECA, you should just go to a matinee tie or something to save money.
Area Im in:
1, its summer vaction for schools.
2, only 2 theaters show matinees.
3, Only show them on week ends.
4, small theaters
NO real way to get into a small crowd.
If nothing else I will wait at LEAST a month for it to mellow out.
wow you theaters only show matinees on weekends? thats messed.
All the theaters around here show matinees and it's anytime before 3 or something like that

I agree with Dang...WOW only 2 theaters with afternoon showings. How crazy, until I saw where your located. I guess I should stop complaining about where I am located, since we at least have matinees everyday and a dollar theater too! :)
Nearest theater:
http://movies.magicvalley.com/index2.asp?view=Jerome
This is about 15 miles away..

This one is about 30 miles away..
Has a few, that are during the week.
considering the area, it will be CRAMMED..

OMG...they are 15 and 30 miles away. You poor thing!
I can drive 10 miles to go to a drive-in theater, but I have not been there in awhile...but it's a good deal since you get 2 movies for less than what you pay at the regular theater. And you can bring all the food you want in with you...no need to sneak it in.
I wonder if the drive in will have it, we could get a WHOLE car load in..

Most amazing thing ever. Oh don't worry honey lightning never strikes the same place more then once its really action packed i wanna go see it again
Yust seen it yesterday, and it's really terrible!! A worst film i've seen in many months! I can't say that the story is bad, because this thing doesn't even have a story!!! Why did they come, what they wanted to accomplish, how did those bacteria affect them, and why did they planed to invade earth, before there were even humans, why didn't they just destroy earth then, or plant that red stuff then. But what the hell is that red stuff, anyway?? And there are many more questions...
Ofcourse, the action scenes were great, but that isn't enough to make a good movie.

I think the point of not explaining these things is that, if this kind of thing were to really happen, we would probably not know WHY. It puts you more in a real-life situation of how things happen without an explanation...think about it, if aliens landed tomorrow and they were hostile, do you think they would give us detailed reasons as to why they were going to destroy us? And then there's the problem of communication...we can't assume that they speak English or any other Earth language. How could they tell us their intentions?
One of the reasons I like Sci-Fi is that, while some things have detailed reasons and you can learn from watching them, there are other things that don't have an explanation--like in Kubrick's 2001: A Space Odyssey. No one explains what the monolith is for or where it comes from, but that leaves it up to the viewer to decide.
I thought "Worlds" was absolutely phenomenal, and especially liked the undercurrent of tension between Tom and his kids that was resolved by the movie's end.

I am with Sunny on this one, War of the Worlds was an excellent film. Remember this is a remake of the original film and they stayed true to it. In the original you only saw the alien hand at the end and that was it.
And the book War of the Worlds was written in the 1890's if you can actually believe that. I am glad Speilberg stayed true to it. It certainly leaves a lot of unanswered questions, but thats whats so great about it IMO.

The book was published in 1898, phenomenal if you ask me. Think of it, cars were not even invented at that time, yet someone was able to think up an elaborate story like this based on future visitors.
Ok, I didn't know there was a book nor the first film. All your arguments are true, but, i don't know, the movie lasted 2 hours, and in that time nothing happened. That movie could be sumed up in 5 sentences. I was just really, really bored. But if you enjoyed the film, then great! Hell, if all the people on earth had the same taste and liked the same things, then it would be really, really, reallly booooring!!

lol you are right!
I really liked it. I had low expectations for two reasons: I've read the book and seen the original movie, and right now Tom Cruise is not one of my favorite persons. But the movie is very well made. The action is non-stop. Time goes very fast and the action starts right away. Special effects are great. It has that new techno touch (e.g. the laser rays) with that old-time sci-fi design. In other worlds the appearance of the machines is like something somebody in the 60's would conceive but the effects around it are pretty modern.

The foghorn sound the machines made was pretty scary I thought. Could you imagine hearing that and knowing you are going to either be killed or rounded up!?

By the way, welcome to the Designtechnica forums Pepe, and happy birthday too! :cheers
Vex,
I have to ask...
You havent SEEN the original movie?? WOW.. It used to be shown EVERY halloween.
Did you know in its initial RADIO broadcast, it scared 1/2 the east coast, into thinking there was a REAL invasion. They did a movie about that also.. People were out shooting things and each other, trying to kill aliens. They almost had to QUIt the show early.

wow i would have pooped my pants if i heard there was an alien invasion like that
No, but now i remember reading about it in a magazine... About that radio show that scared whole America. And about that how the original film was terrible.
And this film shows quite well how far would people go to save their meaningless existance. Just to live in that ruined Earth for even a moment loger. What a pittyful race we are...
What was funny about the radio show...
It was done as a NEWS CAST. And the REAL and fake Commercials, and a notice about it NOT BEING REAL...
but still 1/2 the east coast took it serious.
Ya, should watch the movie about the radio cast...its cool.
its funny you say that..
Think what it was like BEFORE TV, CARS, PHONES, ELECTRICITY...most of this is around 100 years old. Cars are abit older.
Go camping for a week, and forget all the SPECIAL stuff that was made in the last 20-50 years...BIG difference. THATS what would be left.
from my understanding of the radio broadcast, they only made the announcement at the beginning of the show that it was fictional. So, anyone who tuned in after that didnt have a clue and thought it was real.
