Hi, After following this forum for a while, i decided this this player was worth the risk (i live in Austrlia and had to order it in). I got my player today and have just upgraded to firmware to 1.30.04 and it has caused my voice recorder to completely disappearfrom the menu. I rolled back to 1.20.03 and it was there but "now playing" was not(also, after just a few hours, i already cant stand 1.20.03- too slow and jams too often).
so ive gone back to 1.30.04 and voice is still not on the main menu. It seems that one option disappears so the other can fit on without having to scroll.
Has anyone else had this problem???? Its a pain cause i really wanted this feature.
Please help!

Sophie.
I believe the menus changed a bit between the releases. I've moved up to firmware 1.30.04 and this is how I manage to record voice:
When in MUSIC mode, press Stop/Pause
REMOVE THE HEADPHONES
Press and hold the REC button to get the microphone icon up with Vnnn.mp3 above it.
Talk.
When done, press and hold REC to save the file to the VOICE folder.
If you have anything plugged in to headphone jack, it thinks you are doing LINE IN and saves the file as Lnnn.mp3 and puts it into LINE directory (but the file will be silent unless you actually are doing LINE in stuff).
Hope that helps.

ahhhh!!! awesome, thanks soooo much!!! I would never have figured that one out. Also while we're at it you wouldn't happen to be able to solve my other problem would you?? When i turn on the player, the only way that i'm able to show all my music files is to go through the radio player and hold onto menu which automatically switchs it over to the now playing and then i can work backwards from there. If i try to work forwards through the menus without going to the radio first, the directory claims to be empty.
any ideas??

Sophie,
I have only just started to get the hang of the folders (due to the 256 song per folder limit).
I have created a number of folders directly under MUSIC called 001_music 002_music etc.
Pretty basic, but is is working for me.
I don't save any music to the MUSIC directory. All my stuff is in one of my own sub-dirs.
So, for me, when I turn on the unit - from the Music side (IE: Not radio), lightly press Menu once, shows a list of songs in the current folder. IE: If I was last playing a song in folder 002_music, that's the list of songs I get.
Press menu again (there is usually a short time delay here) and all my sub-dirs are shown.
Scroll, enter to look in them and/or select songs.
Menu twice more to go to Navigation.
As long as I put all songs from the same album in the same sub-directory, the MPIO scan utility creates a playlist that works.
I'm only in my 2nd week of ownership and the 256 song limit not withstanding, I'm pretty happy with the unit.
I just got an FM transmitter to go with it today and tried it out in the car earlier. REALLY happy with that too. I can now listen to my tunes on the way to work. (Don't think it's very safe wearing headphones whilst driving).

Hi. You said you just got your FM transmitter! Which onr did you buy and from where? I'm really interested in one but I'm afraid they won't work very well...

Erik,
I bought a Belkin Tunecast II.
I am in Australia and I got it from a place called Techbuy

There are cheaper ones out there and I really didn't do much research before running out and getting this one.
It works fine. The frequency is fully settable (the cheaper ones often come with 4 pre-set channels and you need to know if there will be any 'clashing' with radio stations in your area).
I only use it for the car. It works fine for me on 96.3 (in Melbourne).
The only issues
- I get the mobile phone towers 'polling' in certain areas. I don't know if this would be the case with all frequencies, so I will try other settings at some point.
- the player volume has to be pretty loud for the auto detect to work.
- the volume on the car radio needs to be set louder than normal to get good volume through the FM transmitter.
- I doubt that I could get good quality VERY loud music using this method (but it's good enough for me).
My brother bought a $15 unit and is happy with that, so it might pay to look at them too.
