Hello, My computer has major issues... I dont even know if i'm posting this right or whatever, but a friend recommended i come here for computer advice.. and boy do i need some!! So for about the last four months I keep having problems with Isearch desktop... I have used lavasoft ad-aware and Microsoft's "beta spyware remover" or whatever it is... and it removes it temporarily, but evertime I restart, it has come back. I have tried everything I can, I have even taken it to the computer helpdesk at my school and they recommended that I just reinstall Windows on my computer, and start from scratch... but I'd really like to avoid that!
Also I have a huge problem with popups... one that keeps popping up is something like "theloadingwebsite.com" or something liek that... but there are many many more popups ALL THE TIME! It's all so frusterating!! I'm not a scetchy internet user or anything.. I dont understand where all these problems are coming from... So I am going to post this log thing that I got off the "highjack this" list. If anyone has any advice as to what I can do with all this, I'd REALLY REALLY appreciate it!!! THANK YOU

Jim, first off I'd like to say thank you for taking the time to write. I tried to follow your directions, but I was somewhat unsuccessful. When I tried to delete "C:WINDOWS\isrvs" file(s), it would not let me delete any of the contents, as if they were in use or something. Then I couldnt even find the "rnrpnr.exe" file. When I tried to type it directly in the URL, the "this page cannot be displayed" page came up. Any advice as to what I'm doing wrong? or what else I can do?
I did however check each of things you recommended to do in the Hijack This. After rebooting it seems most everything is still deleted, except that damn isearch desktop. Here is the updated log from the Hijack This:

Were you in Safe mode when you tried to delete that stuff? It may not work in Normal mode.
Looks like rnrpnr.exe is gone. At least I dont see it on your latest log.
Unplug the internet from your computer
Reboot To Safe Mode (tap F8 on Startup)
Delete these Files and or Folders
C:\Program Files\Ares\Ares.exe (this program can be bundled with Spyware
C:\WINDOWS\isrvs
If you cant delete the folder, open the folder and manually delete each file. Usually Isearch is easy to get rid of.
Still In Safe Mode Open up Hijack This and Place a check next to each of these and click Fix Checked.

The entry in red is another problem. May have to try another program to kill that one.........Jim

The entry above is the problem with the pop ups. I think you have the latest version of VX2 which can be hard to kill sometimes. Maynard tried this fix on another log. He will be back in a few days. We can give it a try, Maybe I can figure it out, If not we can wait for him to return.
For starters Download L2mfix from one of these two locations:
http://www.atribune.org/downloads/l2mfix.exe
http://www.downloads.subratam.org/l2mfix.exe
Save the file to your desktop and double click l2mfix.exe. Click the Install button to extract the files and follow the prompts, then open the newly added l2mfix folder on your desktop. Double click l2mfix.bat and select option #1 for Run Find Log by typing 1 and then pressing enter. This will scan your computer and it may appear nothing is happening, then, after a minute or 2, notepad will open with a log. Copy the contents of that log and paste it into this thread.
IMPORTANT: Do NOT run option #2 OR any other files in the l2mfix folder until you are asked to do so!

Its normal, The log that Maynard was working on is about this long also. I sent him a Private message to look at this thread. I'm gonna compare this log with the other log and see if we should go to the next step........Jim

Well I compared logs and both logs have the file Guard.tmp which is considered a trojan according to this website. So I'm guessing both logs have the same problem.
http://www.greatis.com/appdata/d/g/guard.tmp.htm
We can do one of two things.
We can wait for Maynard to come back and see what he says since I am not familiar with this program. He may just tell you to do Part 2.
Or I can give you the instructions for Part 2 of this fix. I'll post Part 2 below if you want to give it a try..........Jim
Part 2
Close any programs you have open since this step requires a reboot.
From the l2mfix folder on your desktop, double click l2mfix.bat and select option #2 for Run Fix by typing 2 and then pressing enter, then press any key to reboot your computer. After a reboot, your desktop and icons will appear, then disappear (this is normal). L2mfix will continue to scan your computer and when it's finished, notepad will open with a log. Copy the contents of that log and paste it back into this thread, along with a new hijackthis log.
IMPORTANT: Do NOT run any other files in the l2mfix folder unless you are asked to do so!

Good catch nightowl.
Guard.tmp is one of the sympotoms of vx2 / LookToMe. I would indeed suggest running part two just as you have done in the previous post.

Hey everything seems great for the time being! If anything comes up in the future I'll be sure to get in touch with you. Just out of curiosity, do you do this as a volunteer type thing? What ever it is, its a great service and very much appreciated!! Thanks again, Devin

Yes we do this as volunteers.I've been doing this about a year or so. I hate Spyware and the people who put it out there. I was infected with ISearch when I came to this website for help. So I started to learn this little by little and started fixing these logs.
Before you go Download SpywareBlaster for prevention Here is the link.
http://www.javacoolsoftware.com/spywareblaster.html
Run and Update Adaware and Spybot at least once a week to keep it clean.
Update SpywareBlaster once a week Enable all Protection and let it run in the background.........Jim :vivi
