Hi. I am new. I found this forum while searching about the Mpio HD300. In fact this is really the only forum I could find about the HD300.

Anywho I want to know your opinions on this DAP. Is it any good? Are the controls similar to the iPod? I might bid on one on eBay if you guys think they are worth it. Is the sound quality good with the signal-to-noise ratio only being 90db? Is it loud enough? Does the latest firmware fix a lot of bugs?

I have read 2 pretty bad reviews. One on Cnet but they are iPod/Apple lovers and so nothing and I mean nothing matches up to it. The other was on Dapreview. The guy used lots of sarcasm so I don't know how accurate his review is. And perhaps the latest firmware fixes a lot of his complaints.

So let me know guys. Thanks.

Sorry I didn't post this earlier and now I can't edit my orignal post so here is what I wanted to add. This (http://www.dapreview.net/content.php?review.125) is the link to the review on Dapreview just in case you haven't seen it.

Jonathan,

I like mine.
The sound quality is good. The volume has been fine for me.

The only issue I have is with the 256 files per folder limit - see other threads.

This is more of a nuisance than a big deal for me, but it is definately something you need to be aware of.

I have also read the DAP review and some others. They seem to be a bit outdated to me as many of the issues being complained of do not occur with the latest firmware.

My opinion - The MPIO HD300 isn't bad.
It IS terrible out of the box (with the old firmware on it).
Update the firmware, get the latest MPIO utility from their web page and learn how to use the folders and all should be OK.
If this sounds like too much hassle, look at a different brand.

Hey thanks for the reply. I just looked at some more pics and the play button seems to be in kind of a weird place. Are the controls easy to use? Sigh I have no idee what DAP to get. I have looked at tons and none look that good. :(

The controls are OK, but not super.
They are fairly easy to use, but are a little close together in some cases.
Often skipping a track forward or backwards, you turn the volume up, lightly tapping the Enter key cycles through the repeat options (not a favourite of mine), and it would be useful if it had some kind of raised or textured surface on the control pad to allow you to find your bearings without looking at the controls (there are after market things around for some players).

These are not huge issues, but they are issues.
