View Full Version : So MANY flaws in Philips HDD070!

I won a HDD070 from a contest...wouldn't have bought this using my own money cos it has too many flaws:

i) The tracks are not arranged in the correct track order (either in alphabetical order or say, for a 12 tracks album, in the order track 1, 10, 11, 12, 2, 3,..., 9).

ii) The lcd dot-matrix characters are either not properly drawn up or they overlap like in the 'More track info' screen.

iii) The player sometimes turns off and resets itself when u press the play/power button only for a split second when u want to play a track. Same problem with HDD060.

iv) Transfer of songs and files are very slow even when it is USB2.0.

v) Some artists appear twice on the "Artists' menu, when only the first one is linked to the albums and songs. The second one is just a dummy.

vi) "No artist found' (also a dummy) is always at the 'Artists' menu even when all the tracks are tagged with their respective artists.

vii) Some song titles are unable to scroll across the screen when the songs are played even when they are not long.

These are the flaws which come to my mind, but I bet there are even more. HDD070 owners, please add to the flaws list or state your comments...

I recently format my player and the disk size as stated is 1.87GB, with only 1.72GB available. Why is the available size smaller even when there are no songs or files in the hard disk? Is 1.87GB the normal formatted disk size for HDD070? Also, under 'Information', the available memory of the player is stated as 580MB as that before the formatting. This is untrue and I think, is another flaw of the player.

Appreciate any help and comments. Lots of thanks! :cheers

anyway im having a problem, maybe you can help...
my computer wont recognise the player when i connect it... so what do i do? do i format it how do i do that?
also the text in the player is smudged, when i play a song the song time and artist and song name is blacked out, i dont know why, can anyone help? the player plays fine, but i cant add or remove songs, because the computer wont recognise the player.

Hi,

When you say your computer doesn't recognise your player, does it mean that your player doesn't appear as a removable drive? Do you use Musicmatch to add your songs? Does it recognise your player?

I guess if your computer recognise your player as a removable drive, then its not a big problem. If Musicmatch doesn't, then you may want to reinstall it and the HDD070 plugin. That may solve the problem.

You can format the HDD in your player either in Windows explorer (if it can appear as a removable drive) or in Musicmatch (there is an option in the "portable device" window). For the former option, reformat in "Fat32". That's what I see in other threads.

Once that is solved, maybe you wanna re-add your songs and hope the information are not smudged.

Cheers...

Mine has the same problem, I've sent it back tothe manufacturer once because it wouldnt turn on, the screen just flickered.
Now I'm having even more problems, when i connect my device to the computer, musicmatch and philips DDM programs don't recognise that it's connected, both say no player is connected.
However I can access my devise through my computer and then the g:drive, but i cannot add songs that way, they don't work!
Also, now when i turn on my devise it constantly shows the same message 'problem:please connect to a pc'. I connect it to my pc and nothing happens, this has been happening constantly for atleast a month, I have no idea how to solve the problem!
Help!

i had your problem, it shows the message 'please conncet to pc' well connect it to your pc, then go to my computer and there should be a removable drive, right click and go to format just format the player, it wipes all of the songs on it, but after that you should be able to use musicmatch again, thats what i did last time, but now my computer and musicmatch both dont recognise the player and i dont know what to do, how do it fix it?

I've just formatted my player, and not only were the songs wiped but so was everything else in it!
I still have all the same problems.
Would anyone be able to tell me which files should be on the player, when you view it via my computer?

I went to the Philips support website. It says to solve the "Problem! Please connect to computer" issue, you need to use the HDD070 Device Manager to restore the player back to factory setting. This will recreate some files or the database in the player to make it work fine again. I have the same problem too after I format the player in Fat32.

However, when I try to use the Device Manager, it says that the player is currently accessed by some applications and I must close these applications and try again. This is another problem, cos I dun see any application accessing the player. Can someone help?

Thanks!
