Defrag hdd 120/05..................BIG failure

I use my hdd as a removable hard drive and as an MP3 player. I defragged it last night as it was 63% fragmented and kept locking up. When I went to check this morning it had locked up the computer at 26% complete. Also my HDD is now coming up with a disk error, it won't talk to my computer and DMM says it isn't plugged in. I have tried resetting and uninstalled and reinstalled all the software but nothing is working. I need serious help.

It's more likely that the hdd was suffering from physical issues rather than just fragmentation if it has locked up now.

Defragmenting will create some strain on the disk (accesses and writes to alot of the disk), if your's was a bit week in some sectors, this may have aggrivated it.

again, its another lovely case of the operating system being corrupted.
all you can do is: take it back to the shop, or...
send it away to be repaired.
as the computer isn't even seeing it as a hard drive, there's no way of getting into the drive to sort it out :(

have you tried a Format(fat,fat32, HAVe to be selected) and starting OVER...

she can't do that! the comp doesn't recognise the hdd is there.
i had the same problem. i tried it on other machines to no avail. take it back to the shop. it's dead.
