Hi There I hope somebody could volunteer some advice to a bit of a technophobe. I got the HDD120 two days ago and to say its not exactly going smoothly for me would be an understatement. I have followed all the directions and successfully installed DMM on my pc. All of my cds are in 'My Music' folder after i used Windows Media Player to copy them. My problem is that when i turn on DMM it doesn't automatically download my music from my pc - nothing happens. I contacted the helpdesk and they said the reason was because i had the copy protection option turned ON in WMP..they said if i turned this off it should work for me the only problem being that i would have to recopy all my cds again ;-( I did this on their instruction, deleted all my copied cds, turned the copyright option off, copied a new cd as instructed and again NOTHING. The DMM library has nothing in it. Can someone please please please tell me what i'm doing wrong???
thanks

Have you converted the music files to MP3 or WMA format ?

Thanks for your reply Norman. When i said i was a technophobe i meant it ;-) What exactly do you mean by convert my files? I copied my cds to my computer using Windows Media player i wasn't aware i had to convert them after that? how should i do that? I thought i just had to copy to my pc with WMP and that DMM would automatically grab them to the library then when i opened it...i'm embarresing myself here aren't i? ;-)

Hi Venessaw

Do not worry about asking questions on the forum it is how we all learn from each other. Your HDD can only play / recognise MP3 or WMA files when you rip music to your PC you should be able to tell your ripping software to convert the files to the format required [ a free tool I use for conversion is dbpoweramp music converter]. Also Phillips own software[DMM] is poor. I use the excellent free program called Herbert v5 .see link below.

Finally before you tranfer the mp3 / wma files to your HDD the individual tracks should be TAGGED for the files to show on the hdd screen and play in the required order. If you need any help do not hesitate to post

Cheers Norman

The solution to this may actually be massively simpler than you realise, if my random guess turns out to be correct.

You say you've put your music files in the "My Music" folder - but which one?

There are two. There will be the Microsoft Windows-installed "My Music" folder in the "My Documents" directory, but there will ALSO be the "myMusic" directory in your C: drive which the Philips software installs.

Now, if you have all your music in the Windows "My Music" folder (which I assume would be the default place for Media Player to put it) and your HDD software is looking in "C:\myMusic" then it's never going to find them.

Check this out - if they're all indeed in "My Music" instead of "myMusic" then try moving one track into the latter. Close and re-open DMM, and if the track shows up, you've solved the problem!

(I hope I didn't come across as patronising or anything - first post here...)
