View Full Version : Playlists go empty (Herbert)

I'm using Herbert's software to manage my HDD120.
I uploaded a bunch of mp3's, all of them fully tagged (ID3v1 & ID3v2) . Categorized them in about 10-15 playlists.

When I want to listen to the HDD, all playlists look like they are empty (except for one)

I find this very odd. When I open Herbert again, the playlists I tried to listen to have become empty, the others haven't. When I look at the Playlist text-files on the HDD, I see the same thing: the ones I tried to listen to are empty text-files, the others are OK.

This is really anoying and I have no idea whats causing this. (I'm using v6.6)

Do you guys think this is a problem with Herbert's software?

try using v4.0 firmware
the only other thing i can think of is... you might have to download a program called hdd tool, which should change the file names to be understood by the hdd

Hi,

It is a bug with Herbert. I am aware of it, and am currently trying to fix it... it'll hopefully be fully working for the next version.

Really sorry if this has caused problems for people :(.

Stefano.

hey i have to admire your work stefano, it's rather good. just wondering if there will be a firmware upgrade for the hdd? you could make one and it would be better than the normal ****e that's on it.
Oh! there should be a function that lets you change the EQ as well. :) i think the values are stored in the hidden 'system' folder, within a .txt file. i did have a snoop about in there. i have no idea how to program or i would help you out, or maybe even make something to keep you in check ;)

If anyone could give me any sort of hand here, I'd certainly be interested... ;)

Right,

I've just put a new version of Herbert on my website (v0.1.7, click below). I can't reproduce the bug, but I believe that I have fixed it. If anyone comes across the problem in the latest version, then please let me know (by posting here, or emailing me), and I'll get back to work on it.

Stefano

Thank you Stefano for your wonderful piece of software. I'll try the new version and I'll let you know if the 'bug' is still there. Great of you to reply so quickly :thumb

I don't really like the firmware myself, but i'm not a good coder. Would really be nice if we could at least change the fast forward and rewind speed, it's WAY to slow for me. (most tracks I have are dj-recordings longer than 1hour / track)

And I still don't understand why the engineers put such a 'narrow' filelenght-limit on it. It might help the speed, but it's such a pain in the ass.

Once more thank you Stefano, you'll hear from me shortly.

Dear Stefano,

I'm afraid my empty playlist problem hasn't been resolved. But I do think it has nothing to do with your software, I think the problem is due to something else (firmware, or perhaps my windows charset ? )

I recall having had the same problem when I used to make the playlists by hand (actually, I used a bit of bash scripting to turn folders on my hard drive into playlists on the HDD)

I don't really mind, cuz I use the Album tag to sort the tracks. Instead of making playlists I just give them the samen Album tag..

Cheers,
Andrew

I'll keep looking into it, but don't have much of a clue as to what the problem is.

Thanks for letting me know!
