So whats the current word on the apple ipod nano's fragile screen?
Is there any product out there that would properly protect the screen? What can be done? I've been hearing alots of stories that make it seem if you breathe on the screen your going to scratch it to the point where it won't be good for pictures anymore. :|
there are PDA screen protectors, that you could probably cut to size...
They are a light clear vinyl...and wear with time, thats why theres, like, 10 in a pack.

It does have a pretty fragile screen. Its not super bright either so I worry it will be hard to see with a case. Belkin announced some cases this week, check them out here: http://news.designtechnica.com/article8376.html
the PDa screen protectors lay ON the screen..only they are not a case...
ALOt of stores use them on the creditcard machines, where you write your names, to protect from scratches..easy to remove, and replace..

Lajo makes good rubber sleeves and nice screen protectors. Not sure if they have em for nanos yet, but the screen protectors is nice and thick, not like a pda screen protector. With PDA screen sheets, they have to be thin enough to still transfer teh pressure through. The Lajo ones are more like the thickness of 6-7 of those stacked, so it offers some structural support. Theya re also very clear and come in different tints. their site is lajo.biz, and it's ALMOST as bad as Koss's site. Just looking at it, looks like they don't have nano stuff yet, but you can bet they will within a month...

Those cases suck imo. I would rather something in clear plastic like a second skin that keeps the appearance of the unit and at the same time protects it.

I pulled my nano out of my duffle bag today and there are a bunch of scratches on it already. I can't believe how easy this things scratches.
Jack, winamp has a driver, YES, dont know if it works...try it..
as to DELETEing the songs, I format it..
OR from the SONG list of whats ON the ipod, you can delete..
sorry to say, BUT READ the book, or the ITUNES info..

Apple seems to be acknowledging the problem now. Of course, they claim it is an isolated problem from a vendor and affects less than one tenth of one percent of the nano's out there. I find it hard to believe that the number is that small with all the stuff all over the 'net about it. Supposedly the screen is supposed to be made of the same materials and be of the same quality as the screens on all iPods but there was some sort of quality control slip up. I'm not sure exactly what they are going to do about it. You would hope that they learned their lessons from the battery mess they got into and will react quickly and in a satisfactory manner before they have another class action lawsuit on their hands.

These guys put the nano through hell. They make it seem like it's damn near indestructible.

Lajo just came out with their nano protectors as well.... good stuff...

But i belive it's not the scratches that bother people the most, but there were few cases where LCD display units just cracked! On the outer plexy there were no scratces or cracks, but lcd cracked like it had fallen from 20 meters high. It happened to my friend when he was viewing it in the store, just took it in his hands, put his finger gently on the screen and it just snapped! Ofcourse he didn't buy that one, they gave him a replacement on the spot.

Yeah, and I think Apple is only committing to replacing the ones with cracked screens and not the ones that people claim are scratching easily. Supposedly this affects only a small number of nanos as the screens are supposed to be made of the same material as all other iPods but I would hold off on getting one until this blows over. If you happen to get one with a defective screen that is easily scratched but doesn't actually crack then you might just be out of luck.
That's right, and I think when people saw those information about cracked screens on the net, they didn't take it litteraly, and thought they had an cracked screen, altough it was only scratched. So from the internet it would seem that alot of nanos have cracked screens, but I belive that the number is actually alot smaller. But i didn't want to risk it, so i got 20 gb ipod, alltough i wanted nano before i heard of the cracks...

This is what makes me mad about Apple. Total denial and lying all the time. Its a messed up product, if it scratches easier than it should, they need to replace it. No questions asked.

I'm sure it will cost them millions. But you should know the routine by now. They will settle for millions of dollars of which the attorneys will get half of and while those actually affected by the defects will get something immaterial like $20 of free iTunes downloads. :curse
NOPE wont happen...
As being a new product, the failure of cosmetics mean nothing in the long run, as the item DOES hold up, and work properly. Otherwise you could SUE on a scratch on your car.
And as APPLe, I would sit on it until the OTHERS are ready to get to court. And then ask them to prove FAULT, they are only selling the internals, not the cover plate.
