Slim Devices announced tonight a third generation of the Squeezebox. It gained a brand new look as well as the addition of native WMA support (to go along with its native MP3, FLAC, WAV and raw PCM support), support for automatic volume leveling (Replay Gain) and WPA2 security among other things. If their pattern holds look for them to start discounting their existing stock of the Squeezebox2 players to clear them out.

I'm an owner of one Squeezebox(G) and one SLIMP3 (their original offering) and couldn't be more pleased.

They have indeed discounted the Squeezebox2 and by entering the promo code "ThankYou" you can get another $20 off.

Wow thanks for the post, I really like the new look. It certains competes with the Roku now in terms of design. I will have to pick one up.

Here's an interesting (at least to me) webpage that shows the evolution of the product.

I like the new design as well. One thing I'm not quite sure I understand is why they bothered with offering a choice between white or black. The color choice only affects the sides and back of the unit. The front stays the same no matter what. Since 90% of the time anyone paying attention to the unit will be looking at the front, I don't really see the point.

I am sure they added the white model for those iPod fans. It seems like everything comes in white nowadays, look at the new Xbox 360 for example.
