I tried to change from round to oval, I think the oval may be broken. I aimed it and hooked my single cable to it. There are 4 places on the oval dish to hook the cable, does it matter. I tried them all. My receiver has an auto dish detect, it works for the round but not the oval, does this indicate the oval dish is broken? Thanks.

is the oval dish the newer one? Whats the difference between the two. (Sorry if I am ignorant, I have DISH network and they are setup differently).
They use the oval in 2 ways...
1 . is for multi sets in a home..
2. is for satilite network and TV..
I dont know the configuration..

The round Dish is old,(for cottage) the dish on the roof in NY state is oval, 3 head. An oval 3 head gets local channels, the round does't. The round was for the motorhome/cottage. I thought I would just pick up the used oval to replace the round so I could get the local channels. The auto detect should work whether the Direct Dish is pointing in the correct direction, right? It doesn't, it just says check your dish and cable. OR did I hook it up wrong? Thanks.
IT has to be pointed correctly.
Auto detect only auto locates 1 of 3 sats..
