I went to see this over the weekend, and it was wonderful--I would even go so far as to say it's as good as the original play (and that's saying a lot). The cast is terrific, especially Angel, Maureen and Joanne (that voice!!) The soundtrack has been running through my head for the past few days. :)
A must-see for any fans of the play, and for anyone who considers her/himself part of American counterculture.

I have no idea what this movie is about. Can you paste a synopsis somewhere? I might have to go check it out. Thanks for the info!

I hate to hijack this thread. But I saw the Johnny Cash movie Walk the Line over the weekend. Pretty good movie. A lot of music in it. The acting was first rate which was unexpected with Reese "Legally Blonde" Witherspoon in it. But she was very good along with Phoenix.

Apparently Elvis got everyone hooked on drugs. :)

RENT is set in downtown New York City in the late 80's, and is about a group of friends living there. Most of them are struggling (ie. seriously lacking in funds) artists (a filmmaker, a musician, a dancer, a writer, etc), and some of them are battling AIDS (this of course was a time when AIDS was a relatively new epidemic in the U.S.) The musical celebrates the spirit of youth, artistic freedom, love in all its forms and the counterculture in much the same way that HAIR did in the late 60's.

Hope this helps! :)

I sure will. I look forward to the RENT Movie Release date. Funny thing though, after my friend sent me the link www.rentmovie.com I thought I could just login to the forum on rentmovie, but doesnt appear anyone is chatting on their forum. I wonder if there server crashed and they lost all of the threads in the database. It is nice though to find small pockets of people still chatting on RENT the Movie while we all wait for RENT DVD.
