View Full Version : Will Xbox Bite the big one.
OK,
with all the protection Xbox360 has on it to protect the OS,
do you think MS will bite the big one, or is it just another challenge for hackers.
i would never estimate the motivation of $ or being the first.
Either of those two will eventually cause the Xbox 360 to succumb to a hack eventually.

I think hackers will be able to mod the hardware and the OS. I am willing to bet money on this.

- The flash is encrypted with a per-box key
- The key is stored inside the CPU
- The boot ROM is stored inside the CPU
- Also inside the CPU is a hypervisor that verifies the running state of the kernel, making sure there is no modification (RAM checksums), else the Xbox360 panics and blows up!
- The CPU contains RAM inside of it to store the checksums
- All interrupt/exception handling is done by the hypervisor
- All code runs in kernel mode
- The emulator for first generation games can be updated via an official Microsoft download burned to CD by the user, though the CDs’ content will be encrypted and signed with public key cryptography. The boot ROM is stored inside the CPU
If they do hack it, its going to be hardware hacked..
Its setup to fail, or erase any OS hacks by anyone BUT MS..

Japan and the 360..

NOW, there are lots of ways to bite the big one.
The machine turns out to be "a mess".
It dont live up to ite own hype when other systems come out.
They dont make any games for it.
The games they make COST to much.(because MS is only maker)
Hacking the hardware is STUPID or kills the machine or COSTS to much.
As reported last night on Video Game Outsiders Episode 14, Gametop.com has Xbox 360 bundles available for purchase despite being 'unable' to fulfill in-store pre-orders. The bundles -starting at $999 US - are 'in limited quantities' but are ready to ship for those willing to pay $600 more than the price of a platinum 360 console. If you've got a system pre-ordered at Gamestop that they have been unable to ship, an angry phonecall might be in order.

Actually I read that MS might add a Blu-ray external drive if HD-DVD doesn't take off. I don't think they are partial to any camp.
I think you will have to wait for it. As i dont think SONY will let it happen, if they have a choice. would you let your competitor have an advantage??
There was earlier speculation that Microsoft was going to offer Blu-ray support to its Xbox 360 (most likely via an external drive). This seems to have been a bit inaccurate as Microsoft has stated that it is “fully committed” to the HD DVD platform. Apparently, Microsoft was just touting the system’s ease of expandability, implying that a Blu-ray drive could easily be added externally, but that the company actually has no such plans. Looks like you’ll have to wait for the PS3 to get your Blu-ray-on-a-console fix.

All right, everyone. I'm just a mom who needs some help here. I've heard raves and rants about the 360, and I just want to know from someone who's been playing it for the last two months if it's worth it. Personally, I'm not buying it until I can get Oblivion with it...but I really want to know. Anyone want to chime in?
In my honest opinion...
WAIT..
for 2 things.
Price will fall about the time the PS3 comes out..There wont be any coming out before then ANYWAY.
Wait to compare the PS3, and the 360..try to get the SAME game on both. Then compare an OLD game on both.. Iv heard that the 360 is only about 1/2 compatable with the old games, and DOES delete options in some..such as level selection.
The 360 is also designed for WIDE screen..It dont like the standard screen setup, much.

Thanks. That helps. In the past, I've just really liked the exclusive Xbox games better than PS3. Then someone told me that Xbox games will play on a PS3 -- that's not true is it? Also, if I don't have HD, I've read here that I won't even see a difference. Sheesh!!
PS3 hasnt been released yet, but I can honestly say, NO the machine will NOT play each others games...
they are supposed to play the OLDER versions, but the Xbox plays them POORLY..Where the PS3,PS2, and so forth play ALL the old cames from before..

I bought the Xbox 360 and so far have been dissapointed, there just aren't that many games out there for it. I would honestly wait for the PS3 to launch so you can compare the two systems.
