I've read up on the CES every year since I was a teenager (before the internet even existed) and have always wanted to go. Unfortunately, I realize I probably will never get to.
I know this thread isn't intended to be a "wish list" of products, but I'd like to know what devices everyone keeps expecting to see out there that never seem to come to fruition.
One thing I would love to see is a single digital camera device that takes both excellent pictures and video. It seems most digital video cameras take average to mediocre still pictures and digital cameras take mediocre video. I have both a MiniDV camcorder and a digital camera (Fuji S5000.) I find myself now taking more video with my digital camera than my MiniDV simply out of the convenience of not having to lug around two devices. But the video produced is not as good as even the worst dedicated camcorders (digital or analog.) I recently saw a device that might fit the bill but it actually had two lenses on it (one for video and one for pictures) and was not very small. I'm waiting for something that looks pretty much like an SLR but can also take top-notch videos (as good as today's MiniDV or DVD camcorders.) The camcorder and the digital camera just seem like a natural fit to be merged into one device. For a long time I've always envisioned that eventually you won't be able to buy a device that does one or the other. I'm just surprised it is taking so long.
Intelligent Video and audio cards.
Ones that store there drivers ON the card, and they are upgradeable. Same with audio cards.
They I want them to be priced, LESS then 5 times the price to make.

I would love to see this too, but I am guessing that companies stay away from this because it could be destroying one of their product lines.
I bought my wife a digital camera AND a camcorder (we just had a baby) and was faced with the same dilemna. The camcorder I bought her Panasonic PV-GS150 (http://designtechnica.shopping.com/xPC-PV_GS150~CLT-HSNLF) only has 2MP still image capabilities which was a major bummer.
It will take some guts by one of htese companies to break the mold and make a good hybrid product. In fact, I am willing to bet that a new or no-name company hits the scene with just that and then the larger companies like Sony, Panasonic etc will be forced to make a hybrid product just to compete.

This is my prediction for CES:
- More hybrid media/computer products for the home
- More TV technology, larger LCD screens, new projection technology etc. nothing that will really wow consumers. 1080P? Big deal nothing is broadcast in that yet.
- Blu-Ray players: I am actually excited to see what is coming out on the horizon
- Radical new speaker designs with the same old driver technology
- I haven't been following up on WiFi technology, maybe a faster speed?
I am too tired to really think this through, but will post my thoughts later on. I am not expecting anything to really wow me this year.
WOW, we all joined in AUG 2002...LMAO..
