When I turn on my MP3 player it freezes at the "Creative" screen. I have removed the battery and and tried to start it again but it still freezes. I also removed the battery, moved the start switch to the left, installed the battery so that a menu appears with 4
options - clean-up, format all, reload Firmware, and Reboot. I recently contacted Creative when I got a message on the MP3 player to re-install the Firmware - which I did. (this was last week - prior to the freezing problem). I have no idea how to correct this now other than formatting which I really do not want to do.

I just purchased a zen micro off e-bay, and am having the same problem. It will not recognize it on when I plug it in and it freezes at the creative screen. I have also tried to format, scan disk and erase firmware, all of which freeze. If anyone knows any other solution of reseting it, please let us know.
Thanks..

Wow, I bet the hard drive is toast. I bet you will need to call Creative and ask them to swamp it.

This happened to me as well. Only solution was to send it back and PAY for repair even though I've only had it a little while. Their customer service is HORRIBLE! I was practically hung up on after I called tech support and being honest with them. I said I'd had the unit for a little over 6 months. They curtly replied that they only give phone support for the first 30 days or whatever. This was a gift, but I'll never buy another creative product again.

I have NEVER been happy with Creatives tech support. I think they treat their customers like garbage.
I got so frustrated with one of their sound cards, I wrote an article about it (yes thats my picture at the top): http://news.designtechnica.com/talkback64.html

Yeah, I was really excited about the micro when it came out because it was an alternative to the ipod and, as I'm a PC guy I'd lean towards that. After my experience with them, I'm completely through with them. Why not just make their software available for download on their site? It's not as if it works with other players. Next, they'll start charging for driver downloads like HP :(

Did you read my Talk Back? They are ALREADY charging for full drivers, only beta drivers and updates are on their site. If you lose your driver/install disc, you must pay them for new drivers to be sent to you. Its a complete sham.

It is a BIG scam. All we can do is warn people not to buy Creative. Too bad. I remember they used to be a much better and customer-friendly company.

i need some help with my zen micro it freezes when it is charging.
Try doing a firmware update on it and then charging. If it still freezes you should either try a new battery or see if they will exchange the whole unit for you.
does anyone have a solution to this freezing problem - mine does the same now - freezes at the creative screen. It will enter the recover mode but then freezes again if I try to format up update firmware - I suspect the hard drive has failed.

I have a solution :
Solution: step 1- hold Micro in less dominant hand. step 2- with dominant hand, hit Micro on side---hard. Problem SHOULD be fixed!" It REALY works!!

I found the solution to Zen Micro charge freezing /no charge and USB connection freezing problems!
The small 4-pin USB connector on this player is loose from the circuit board, just like the earphone connector on some players.
All that is needed is re-soldering the 4-pins of this connector to the circuit board and everything works again.
The USB connector in the player is on the same small circuit board that has the earphone jack.
This repair is simpler than the earphone repair, since the connector body does not come loose, just the pins are, what is called as dry joints.
Thanks Jankro!
For folks who dont know how to solder, is this something you can take to a repair shop?

I had the same problem for years, and I finally researched these forums, and to my surprise, this method really DOES work. Thanks Alvaro!

A non-violent solution to the freezing on creative screen problem which worked for us, at least temporarily, is:
turn player off then, hold it in your outstretched arm with the screen towards you and twist your wrist back and forth as quickly as you can.
I found this particular solution on this page:

Otherwise creative zen micros are a piece of **** and we are tired of dealing with all the problems.
Good Luck!

i got my zen micro from ebay b/c i also did not want to get an ipod and be forced to use itunes.. and i was able to d/l all software i needed from creative's website b/c the player did not come with it. that was over a year ago though and i was unaware that they now charge for that kind of thing. i guess its a good thing i have no interest in trying to repair this thing. if im going to have to format and start over im going to get something new and start from scratch.. any suggestions on a good mp3 player thats wma compatible (not an ipod)??? going shopping in a few hours!!! thanks to all of you!
Sorry you are having issues with it. What are you thinking of replacing it with?

After reading you guyz notes i decided to give you a helping hand. The same problem faced me but i got rid of it. so here is the solution. Just slide the power to shut down position, hold it right there and pull the battery out.
