Hdd100, Some tracks Freeze, since using Herbert

Hi everyone.

Ive owned my hdd100 for a year now and i love it, take it everywhere with me. DMM never worked for me so I always used solons programme and never had any problems.

But when browsing this forum I heard people talking about this new programme Herbert. Well I installed it and began using the programme and instantly preferred it to solons because it was a good looking and easy to use.

Shortly after using Herbert to add a few albums and perform maintence checks on my hdd, i noticed that one album i put on using Herbert all the tracks were invisible when looking in the album directory, despite them all being there in the 'all tracks' and all playing fine. Another thing that has began to happen since using Herbert is that when playing random tracks on shuffle certain tracks freeze when finished and the hdd100 dosent respond to skip to next track or play another, but it will switch off only to be still frozen when turned back on. The only way is to restart it using skip and volume up for it to happen again a few songs later.

Does anyone else have this problem at all?
could it have something to do with Herbert?

please help its extremely annoying.

Thanks

Hi,

It certainly could be Herbert. I'll certainly have a look into it. If you could send me your HDD database files (found in the folder X:\System\Data, where X: is your HDD drive) it would really help. A copy of one of the mp3's which freezes would also help, but don't worry if you can't send it to me. And just in case it's not Herbert that's affected the freezing, maybe it's a problem with the firmware, try both the firmwares which come with Herbert and see if it makes a difference (probably won't but might be worth a try).

If anyone else has these problems, it would be a great help if you let me know. I've just put the next version of Herbert up, but it won't have fixed any of these problems.

Thanks,
Stefano [email: step AT hotmail.co.uk]

Ive sent the files, but it appears that its not the song at fault as after noting some songs that froze, when restarting my hdd and playing the songs again they appear to be fine and carry on to the next song as usual.

Version of Herbert?
Hardware version on HDD?

Internal heat problem?? does it happen randomly, or after a time?
DISK failure? check its location on the HDD, and see if its ABOUT the same ram location.
RAM, fill, and dump...some people dont know how to use ram, when they designed the unit. It fills the ram with current song, and runs out of room...They may even load one small song, and then the NEXT song, and run out of ram and LOCK the thing up.

Hi,

I've taken a look, and don't know what's going on. I'd guess that the freezing problem isn't Herbert, since it isn't a consistent problem. I'd guess it's a problem with the firmware, but I can't be sure. Also, not sure why some albums wouldn't be showing up, couldn't reproduce the problem myself.

Anyone else who has any similar problems with Herbert, let me know, so I can look into it more.

Thanks,
Stefano.
