Looks very nice, actually, even with the price a 'little' steep.

What are your thoughts?

Personally, I can wait. Here is a thought. Make a HTPC complete with Tivo capabilities ala AI All in wonder, then burn then to your new computer DVD+R writer for 1/2 the price.

$1800 in my opinion is way too much to pay for old technology. What happens if you have this recorder then decide to switch to Dish Network satellite (which has its own PVR) does it render this useless?

I think you should by a Tivo recorder and a DVD recorder seperately. I just am not seeing it with this product. It reminds me of the Go Video CD/VHS combo player. Not worth it.

Very true. I'm just a big fan of convergence devices. i would love to put together an HTPC, but a) I feel like I am paying too much to get all top notch components (because you KNOW it will be used heavily for gaming) or b) I feel that skimping out on the high end components renders it useless for games 6 months from now.

What's the status on HDTV cards for PCs? Last I heard, there were lots of problems with these and the ability to use the TiVo-esque PC programs.

---- I just took a gander at the avs forums, and like usual, super mega modding and tweaking required. Still, if this Pioneer unit only does standard def, it is not only expensive, but a real mega rip off. A basic P4 2.4 GHz, 120GB HD, and AIW 9800 will run under that easily, plaus you can browse and play games.

Ok, done babbling... back to my reviews....
