Has anyone had any experience with this product? It sounds interesting. And for $16.95, I figure its's worth a shot... but is it worth monkeying around my whole living room?
THere should be a TechTV special on it tonight, so we'll see...

Tell me what TechTV says, this looks pretty weird to me.

looks like a scam to me, I would be curious to see what TechTV says. And I am certainly not putting a hole in my wall for my TV either haha.

I would be leary of any 'company' that has a post office box as a main way to contact them...with no phone number provided as well. I've heard of the lenses before (garbage reviews), and IMO if you can build the thing out of cardboard...you get what you pay for. Or less.

Another thing to consider is that you are enlarging a picture of a TV so the quality they claim to have is only as good as the tv you put in the box. So if you look at a low res picture and then enlarge it, guess what you get a large picture with big pixels and even more loss of resolution. Pretty nice scam though, think I might try that with my computer monitor, should be able to find one of those lens some where around here.....Man I could be playing starcraft with life size creatures.

I think you hit the nail on the head. This just looks way to weird to me. You usually get what you pay for.
BTW, lilbudda, why not choose an avatar. They just uploaded a ton of cool ones.
Here is the entire contents list of the MaxTheater kit:
Two 6x Projection TV Fresnel Lenses
4 sets of assembly guides
Extensive troubleshooting guide
Do it yourself projection screen instructions.
Plus these free Extras:
LCD Projector plans (including 900 pages of LCD projector discussions)
Electronics wholesale list(s)
6 Do it yourself home theater audio project guides
YOU GUYS didnt even read the site.
Its a box for your TV, with Lenses to project the TV image.
NOT good in day light, and unless you got a 1000+lumens contrast.. It REALLY sucks... THIS is OLD. been seeing it sence 1967.

I read it!

umm I read it too ECA. :)
2 plastic lenses, and sides(cardboard) to block the sides, probably with metal foil.
Unless you can get 1000+ Lumens from the contrast, forget it.

hey guys....
these systems are simple use of optics... they use a fresnel lens....
do not listen to anyone who tells you that you will get a plasma quality pic... you will not
however you will get a good repro of your tv.... so if tyou have a crummy tv it will suck... If you have a good quality 13" to 19" tv with good contrast it rocks for the price
as to resolution, normal tv is not hdtv anyways so you do need to sit farther back even wuith a projector
as to lumens, fresnel lenses were invented in late 1870s. They are what made a simple lamp in a lighthouse be seen up to 21 miles away
now if you want to try one you do not need to lose your shirt....
you can get them on ebay for 9.99 for the lens and the plans. I got mine from your_brown_eyed_girl ... It was the easiest thing too... I just paid with visa through paypal
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=15079&item=3049905017
she even throws in shipping for free by airmail... I just finished putting mine together last week and it works great in the basement

found a link on coolshit.com for this "ghetto tv" contraption and figured it was too good to be true. image brightness is an obvious shortcoming; who watches tv in complete darkness all the time? plus who wants captions reversed when they watch tv? imagine watching a news headline or stock ticker in reverse, not to mention your on-screen program guide if you have cable or a dish. then there's the problem of the remote control. if your tv is stuffed into a cardboard box, how's the infrared signal gonna get to the tv? and just where the hell do you put this contraption? under the coffee table? isn't it a bit of a fire hazard to stuff your tv into cardboard box, anyway? maybe someone will put an end to this by suing these guys after their cool new maxTheater.com or webTV100inch.com "big screen" ghetto tv sets their living room on fire. gimme a break.

Hi every body!
Max theater is a 'Big Fraud' and dont ship out of country or they dont ship at all :argue
they use USPS in thier dreams :rotfl without any proof and after getting money they block your email address. i have checked them thrice with different email accounts. They only reply if u want to know how to pay them ? :dunno
So u guys living away from MAXTHEATER must not waste money by sending them , use that money to buy some chips and burger ;) i have wasted 60$ ;) :sponge (this is the burger i ignored !)
Asif :cheers
Excuse me...
YOU PAID $60... I am VERY sorry.
I will admit that anything over $20 is to much, for what this item IS.

I think the only way I would even spend time with one is if it fell out of my box of Fruity Pebbles in the morning (they rock! :rock ). After about an hour of frying ants in the hot sun with it, I'd probly toss it out....
let me do it THIS way...
I saw these when I WAS A KID....
Thought WOW.. ASKED mom what it was, and she told me...
1st thought "CRAP"
And NOw Im over 40, and it would STILL be neet for a solar still. At $20.

I also sent for this product more out of curiosity than anything. I never expected much but i couldnt be bothered making my own for the sake of a bit of money.
Burned I got nicely as I kinda thought i would.
Never got nothing and cant contact them. I ve notified the local authorities in my area yesterday and they assure me theyll look into it. Maybe they will probly they wont.
I just want to wake up one day and see on the news that the former scammer from maxtheater was bashed within an inch of his life by a disgruntled customer. Personally Id go the extra inch.
Then call that company and ask...for a reciept... Or show you payment PAYPAL/Visa/Check
