I was making my regular trip to Best Buy today and saw this beautiful 42" widescreen TV from Sony, I think it's called the KF42WE610. I would love to see a review of it here. The thing is only 17" deep. It's a great medium for those who like the price of a rear projection CRT (KF42WE610 is about $2,700), but need the space saving quality of an expensive plasma.

We were just talking about this in the other thread. The new LCD rear projection sets certainly look great and are rather affordable compared to Plasma or the newer LCOS sets coming out. Plus a lot of these new LCD sets come with an integrated HDTV tuner which is an added bonus.

I saw this exact same set at BB, too. It was REALLY nice. I'm very picky about the contrast levels of LCD projection TVs, and this thing was excellent. In fact, it has made me rethink getting a plasma. I mean, hell, for the price of a 42" plasma, I could get a 60" version. What do you guys think?

And for around $3000 you could get a Full projection setup, with 6' to 21' display.

... which I couldn't watch because the wall is about 4' from the 7' tall windows. Not to mention having to mount it into the building's original brick... :/

Windows can be pulled out and walled up.
You can mout many of these on the cieling, they invert the picture.

smallest amout of space for a REAR projection even LCD is around 10csqF.
Front view is about 2csqF. The only extra room you need is for projection, and the wall area.
but to each there own.
Can you see a Comp game on this screen? WOW.

Alot of them also have PIP, so watch football and play HL at same time.

I see your point, but I think it kinda looks odd having a projection screen just standing in the middle of the wall (my ceiling is too high, and directly under the building's roof to have it roll up into it.)

Every projector I've seen has never shown anything close to black. That's what I was impressed by with this tv. Sure I could close up the windows, but I kinda wanna have light in the room at the same time.

I wish there was a decent store to check out fp lcds. At least I can walk in to Tweeter or Best Buy, muck around with the controls, and stroll away casually while the unit starts shooting sparks.

I've been playing SOCOM 2 the alst few days and it rocks, but I have a feeling the reason I die within the first, oh, 10-15 seconds is because the resolution on my tv sucks so badly that the other team has to be practically sniffing my balls before I see em.

Came home with a Sony KF50WE610 50" LCD about a week ago. I saw alot of queries about it. So I will try to share some real world backgound info. I got mine from a small local retailer who was able to score a great price for me. Less than you will pay at BB or the like. There is also a company that will give you standard extended warranty coverage for the same price as buying it from the big boys. ($239 for this model - 3 years)

$4000 for the LCD, DAV-FC9 System & the SU-WG2 stand for the LCD

The LCD looks awesome, no crappy projection anomolies, contrast issues or anything of the like. In the morning the screen is in absolute sunlight and the anti-glare coating they have applied does its job well. Peripheral vision is perfect, even standing directly on the side of the screen. If you have a digital signal coming in, the colors are vibrant. Almost cartoon-like.

The one thing that bothers me is that there are no optical ins/outs for audio, You get one left/right audio out --I am a sound quality freak and am bothered by the fact that I cant get a digital audio signal.

You get 7 inputs - 3 with S-video & audio
2 with component video & audio, 1 with digital DIN (15-pin?) & audio and one on the front panel S-video & audio

Another issue to look out for is the stand. If you opt to purchase Sony's stand ($499). In the manual the recommended stand is a SU-WG1, in Sony's 2003 dealer borchures the recommended stand is a SU-WG2 (which is a little smaller--and appears to be for the 42" model. The brochure recommends the SU-WG1 for the new XBR models. Which are essentially the same size and little heavier.

I got the SU-WG2 without knowing any better and the LCD does hang over the front edge about 1/8 of an inch. There is a strap in the back of the stand that actually tethers the TV to the stand. It is stable, but can be knocked over with sufficient force, especially on a carpet with medium to high pile.

Overall a kick-ass set, this was actually my first purchase into the big screen realm and I am immensly pleased with the purchase. A great buy--GO GET ONE!

Thanks for sharing this with us, how about posting a picture so we can see your setup? Are you running HDTV or just digital satellite?

As for optical in/outputs, aren't you using a reciever? I would not use the optical inputs on my television if it had them either. The sound board in a TV will never rival that in a reciever.

Glad you liked your teleivision!

I just got back from Abt Electronics, and saw teh XBR 70" LCD projection TV, this one, and a Samsung DLP. I am now 100% convinced to get a DLP. Too much blurring for gaming on the LCDs. I stumbled on a nice way to really 'see' the blurring, since your eyes will saccade to try and fill in missing info and extrapolate objects when they blur. When your eyes dart from one location to another, it is called a saccade. During this period, you are essentially unable to see or remember the process of your eyes moving. The world doesn't whirl before your eyes. Just one object in focus, then another. With the LCD blurring, your eeys will attempt to create smaller saccades to jump to a stationary object on the screen. The sets at Abt had soccer on he TVs. All I tried to do was follow the ball. Do that and you will see that the LCD does blur pretty badly. People generally think they are jsut disoriented because the screen is so big or bright, or whatever. they don't notice the blur until they become accustomed.

Just my thoughts.

I think those the LCD ones look better IMO. DLP are cool, but thats relatively old technology in the tech world eh?

Huh? DLP is about a year newer than LCD for projection TVs. Not to be confused with CRT PTVs.

I saw the 61" Sammy DLP today. Dr0000l... buying it tomorrow. If anyone is in the market for one, you might want to take note of the $300 rebate at Circuit City for TVs $2999 and up. Plus, Great Indoors will beat any advertised price and give you 10% of the difference.

I'm getting a sweeeet deal. Friend of the family works at a nice electronics store. He can get the set for $4080. I'm using Great Indoors to PM that (they have it for $4999), so that's minus $90. The my Grandma is a retired Sears upper management person, and has a lifetime 10% overall discount, so minus another $400 or so dollars. I'll have this $5k for $3.5k! w00t!

btw-Go look at the sets side by side. The DLPs have much better contrast and color, IMHO. No blurring, no burn-in.

Hahaha! Yeah, a plasma would have been nice, but for half the price of a 42" I get a 61" and I figure the TV is kinda the center of the living room anyways, and I have all the other stereo components, that I won't really be saving any room or making the room look nicer, sicne I would probably opt for a table top plasma stand.

I dunno. I'm just all giddy.

Yeah, but a contrast ration of 400:1? Now why f%^& it up with that one big flaw. Bad IBM!

w00t! I got my TV. Out the door for $4k with stand (and that includes tax and delivery). Not too shabby. I get it delivered Friday. I MIGHT be able to pull myself away to post. Well, only if I hook my laptop up to the DVI input. :)

BTW - The Great Indoors has been hands down the BEST consumer experience I, or anyone I know, has had. My parents remodeled their kitchen mostly through them, and then my game with the TV, and my dishwasher (originally $700, got for $300). No hassles at all. They didn't even bother to call for pricechecks. Just looked at the quoted price, said "That's sounds reasonable." And instead of trying to make a quick buck by not BEATING the price, they made sure I was aware of the extra 10% off. Delivery could have been next day, but I will be busy all day. Got a "give us feedback" card and filled it out on the spot to send in. Just all around awesome experience. Add to all that the 90 day Lemon Policy (if they have to repair it 3 times in 90 days, they allow a full return or exchange).

What is the point of having so much resolution? I know of no 'consumer' video display device that could take advantage of this. Even my newly built computer with it's ATI Radeon 9800XT video card can only put out 2048 x 1536 @ 85Hz Max!
