Cell question Samsung mm-a920/sph-a920

i really need to know ...does this phone play anything but MP3 ..is there anyway to change that and the reason i ask cause my friend has a verizon phone i think its the 9800 w/keyboard anyway he was able to change his settings so he could play mp3 and wav (his cousin works for verizon and knew how to get to settings only verizon works know).......thx for any input..
