Need Minidisc advice

I am a music student at a university in Michigan and was needing a minidisc player/recorder for a few different purposes and was looking for some advice. I will be primarily using it for recording (my live music, voice lessons, and class lectures). Then I need to be able to easily transfer the recordings to my Dell laptop for future use. I have no real knowledge of the different types of players but was told by a fellow student that a minidisc player/recorder would do the best job. Through some online research I have discovered that there are a lot of people who have had nightmare experiences with buying a particular player and not getting what they really needed (ones that had a hard time transferring to computer, ones that wouldn't record properly...etc.). My budget is set for under $200 (this includes the necessary accessories as well...mics, software) but will be willing to consider a little higher $ if the benefit offsets the cost. If someone could help me out by explaining some of the minidisc models and features that would meet my needs, or just point me in the right direction, I would be most grateful.

sence nobody has said anything...
I will...
Mini disk is DEAD...

I would look for a Ram recorder..either find a recorder that has Flash ram to record a WHOLE day, or one that can take cards, that your computer can read..
Iv seen a few that have MP3 play back, record in Audio standard for windows, and SOME have a FM radio inside, and Battery life of 10 hours...

Thanks for the advice. I did end up getting a digital voice recorder... an Olympus DS-30 and am very pleased with it. It takes a good recording and is easy to transfer onto my laptop. Thanks again.
