negative feedback from auction websites

Has anyone had any bad experinces from aution websites like ebay, gumtree, etc?
I have sold on gumtree and ebay once and both times went well but have not put anything more on ebay as i often think the postage would be more than the item is worth.

F35b,
then go to the post office and ASK..
Goto UPS and ask about the prices of shipping.

Its also the person recieving the GOODS that ends up paying for SHIPPING.. not you.
USPS has a package for smaller goods, thats a FIXED price about $7 I think, upto 3lbs..to ANYPLACE in the USA.

Yeah i get it that i could ask the post office for a price and i know that the buyer pays postage but my point was that if i am wanting to sell say furniture like a cabinet or a table or a large electrical item that i want to sell for £30-£50 the buyer will be thinking i need to pay £25+ postage and this added to the price of the item makes it not worth while unless i can get the item £20 cheaper than what it's worth.
For most smaller items the buyer would be looking at about £10 courier fee.
example i have a mahogany cabinet unit that has lights in it. It is solid mahogany not like the chip board covered stuff. This is worth a few £100 but it would cost over £500 new. The cost of paying a removal firm to deliver it to someone from ebay would mean the buyer would be looking to get his money for delivery taken out of the seller's price. So instead of me getting £200 for it i would probably only get £150. Thus i am paying for the postage this way.
My point was that this seems to be a disadvantage of the action sites. Local selling sites like gumtree get round this be making the sale take place in person between the buyer/seller.
