a similar problem is the mini-itx boards from VIA.
They promise a lot, deliver junk! - they offer mpeg2 hardware suport...but only if you go out and get powerdvd5 and only works if you are lucky -They anounce new drivers...old ones with a diferent name tag! - tv-out and crt suport...but if you disconect the tv once you got to reconect the crt to reconfigure all over again. -they offer aplication to monitor temperatures...but doesnt work for that board! -anounce low power consumption...but if you try it system chrashes all over the place! - Technical suport doesnt reply at all and when they do...results zero! they never show up at their own forum to help people out. Check the mini-itx section of http://forums.viaarena.com One thread at the forum was actually blocked because peole complained too much! Very dictatorial like! check http://forums.viaarena.com/messagevi...threadid=44853 A tip to the editor of this article, check this product out! |

That seems odd
You send a nice souped up high quality product to a site to review (or magazine) when the one that will be sold to consumers will not have the same specs. Then all of the review sites (and magazines) give good reviews on the image quality everyone thinks that it is a good product and goes out to buy it. Alister |

It will be interesting to see if any review sites change their score or add a disclaimer. Hopefully if they do, they will give credit to Ian.

I really hope that Samsung just finds out the real specs and changes their website to reflect it, then those interested in this monitor will know exactly what they are getting.

This is an awful practice in the industry. It's almost like how some hard disk manufacturers are only offering a 1 year warranty on a retail hard disk when the cheaper OEM version comes with a 3 year warranty. What the hell is that?
It's a great thing that you caught this as a lot of "other" sites may have glossed over this and didn't even know. It just goes to show how far some of these companies...cough...nvidi...cough...will go to get ahead of the competition. I hate how other companies will even fudge sales figures to make it sound like they have a hot product...cough...NGage...cough. They claim 400,000 sales when the real worldwide numbers is probably less than 5 figures. What they mean here is that they tricked stores into buying 400,000 units...consumer sales nowhere near justified buying that many units.

Another thing that is fun.
Is TIME quality. For some reason some products Start out REALLY nice, and in about 1-2 weeks, decrease in quality, or problems start poping up. I Also like the DRIVER issue. A Video card that has all these options, and cant use them for 6 months, becasue the driver has to be updated 16 times, before that "ISSUE" is resolved. OR Direct X hasnt been designed for it, and the driver dont know how to USE it.

I read with some interest...
"I don’t know about you, but the next time I decide I want to buy a product, I will do more research than ever before. I will read a hundred reviews both from actual users and websites/magazines. " Research... Research what? Unless you can get all the Hardware review sites to go out and purchase off the shelf products to review you are probably never going to get a true indication of the product. So you also read a user review.. there are so many inconsistencys with hardware revisions and drivers that I doubt you would still get a proper indication as to a products proper worth. Also how often have you read a bad review of a product, I was reading a IC7-Max3 review at a site today about 1/2 the benchmarks the IC7-Max3 were below the performance of the IC7, which they were comparing it to. There was also the mention of it having 5 PCI slots, so it should be able to handle 5 extra pci cards, though another site reported that when all 5 pci slots were filled there was stability issues with the board. In any case it got an Editor Choice award at 9.5/10 Should a site find a problem with a Motherboard its usually the placement of the power header... hardley a big ticket item to find a problem with. It goes further than motherboards I feel, they are just an easy indication of what can only be happening with all products. Personally I still read reviews, but I take a bloody large grain of salt when I read them, then I visit support forums you can get a far better indication by the number of posts and types of posts to support forums as to how a product performs. Like zeneves said in their post VIa closed a thread because of so many complaints... Anyway thats my .05cents... And here is another .02cents... Sure read review sites but take it for what its worth... its probably someone that has got a product for free, wants to get a review up, do some benchmarks, is only looking for better performance and perhaps looses sight of really taking a look at a product. If you are not looking for problems... I doubt that you would find any! Last edited by letmein; 10-28-2003 at 09:26 PM.. |
