Gateway M675 notebook

http://news.designtechnica.com/article1820.html

The Gateway M675 is a high- performance mobile workstation with a 17-inch widescreen display, and the Gateway M505 multimedia-optimized system with built-in subwoofer and the latest graphics processors.

These products were launched today at the Gateway store in New York City, where chairman and CEO Ted Waitt revealed the company's dramatic retail transformation and unveiled 14 new products for businesses and consumers.

"These new systems settle the debate between performance and mobility for business and home computer users alike," said Mike Stinson, vice president and general manager, mobile products, Gateway, Inc. "Features such as large widescreen displays, powerful processors, high-fidelity sound systems and advanced graphics give these notebooks the extra edge to convince more computer users to go mobile."

I noticed this on Gateway's site earlier this week. Not bad overall, but doesn't really appeal to me. I like the 9600 graphics, but I think I'd still buy a zd7000 before I'd pick this one up.

I think this notebook is pretty good looking and suprisingly thin for what is packed in it. What I find odd is how the touchpad is skewed to the left. This makes me wonder how you would use it, do you center the laptop based on the touchpad or screen? haha

I was just going to comment on the non-centered trackpad as well. It's odd that they semi-centered it to the standard keyboard and not to the entire thing. It would also be awkward for those with large hands

The fact that this system has a numpad would make this a more realistic desktop replacement system. I also wonder if left handers will like it better since the touchpad is on the left hand side.

You could use the area beside the mouse on the right to stick on some sort of paper material to use as an optical mousepad for a mini mouse.
