C60, A52 introduced by Siemens

At a launch event in Moscow today, Siemens introduced two upcoming additions to its line-up of handsets: the low-end A52 and mid-range C60 models. The former features a monochrome display and is light on features, while the latter offers a more advanced feature set with support for Siemens' add-on camera, MMS and a colour display.

Siemens' C60 bolsters the manufacturer's line-up of colour handsets

The C60 is a tri-band GSM 900/1800/1900 MHz phone with GPRS Class 8, equipped with Multimedia Messaging (MMS) support which allows users to take pictures with an add-on with flash, record and add a sound and send these to other MMS compatible phones. The 12-bit (4,096) screen of the handset doubles as a viewfinder, and is capable of displaying 5 lines of text within its 101 x 80 pixel resolution display.

In addition to MMS, the C60 also supports the more common SMS and EMS formats, and also offers a WAP 1.2.1 browser for wireless surfing. Courtesy of polyphonic ring tones and a variety of CLIPit Covers, future customers will also be able to also personalize the C60. |

The A52 is Siemens' most recent addition to its low-end handset range

Powered by a 700 mAh Lithium Ion battery, the 85 g handset measuring 110 x 47 x 23 mm is according to Siemens capable of offering up to 250 hours of talk time and up to 300 minutes of standby time.

The C60 comes with a wide range of Siemens Original Accessories. Besides the attachable QuickPic Camera with flash and the six fashionable CLIPit Covers the C60 accessory portfolio includes a Car Kit Comfort that comes with a two-part modular cradle to easily adapt to most Siemens future mobile phones, a flexible Car Kit Portable as well as a Basic Car Pack and a Mobile Holder. Also, chargers, data cables an an extra battery are available.

The A52, on its side, is compatible with a similarly wide range of accessories but is far less feature-rich than the C60. With its monochrome display, the dual-band GSM 900/1800 MHz A52 is targeted towards price-conscious customers and offers only SMS and EMS messaging - not MMS, which nevertheless would be a less than impressive experience on a black and white display.

What the handset does offer, however, is Siemens' standard fare exchangeable CLIPit covers, as well as the ability to personalize the handset by means of logos and polyphonic ring tones. Similar to the C60, the A52 is powered by a 700 mAh Lithium Ion which is capable of offering up to 250 hours of standby and a talk time of up to 5 hours.

Both phones are slated for availability in September 2003, however Siemens did not comment on the expected price of the handsets.

The A52 looks just like the A55. What's the difference between the two?
