Charlize Theron = Aeon Flux??!?!??!?

If you thought the announcement of Ben Affleck playing Daredevil was odd, then this should top that audacious casting by far, I think. Here's one article:

"Theron Stars As Aeon Flux
Charlize Theron will star in Aeon Flux, an SF movie based on the MTV animated series, Variety reported. Lakeshore Entertainment and Paramount Pictures are financing the movie, with MTV Films and Gale Anne Hurd's Valhalla Productions producing, the trade paper reported.

The film will shoot near Berlin in July. Karyn Kusama (Girlfight) is directing a script by Phil Hay and Matt Manfredi, the trade paper reported.

In Aeon Flux, Theron will play an acrobatic superheroine assigned to kill the government leader 400 years in the future, in a world where humans live under a protective bubble after a virus has wiped out most of humankind. The animated series was created by Peter Chung, the trade paper reported."
_______

_______________

Don't get me wrong, Charlize is a great actress, but DEFINITELY not my first choice to play the scantly lavender leather clad Monican rogue assassin. I'd have gone with Famke Janssen(Xmen/Nip Tuck/GoldenEye/etc...),

Or even Kate Beckinsale(Underworld/Pearl Harbor/etc....).

Carrie-Anne Moss may have been a better fit, although I'm not sure if she'd be quite "sexy" enough.

But hey, in the spirit of comparative reasoning, I think "Daredevil" came out just fine. (Please refrain from bashing me;-) So I guess we'll just have to wait and see. I'm a big "Aeon Flux" fan, and I hope they don't screw this one up by giving it the Hollywood treatment.

Here's another article:

Comments:

A live-action version of MTV's AEON FLUX animated series has been in the works for years. Three years ago there were reports that Paramount was willing to pony up to $15-20M for the live-action feature film, but that price could change if a high enough profile star was willing to attach themselves to the project.

Scoop Feedback:

February 9, 2000... Thanks to a related story that appeared in today's Variety, we learn that the Aeon Flux script was written by Mike Finch (Wing Commander). Finch is attached as the screenwriter for the Glen Larson Battlestar Galactica project, has a script in development at Buena Vista titled Absolute Zero, and just sold another sci-fi pitch to DreamWorks called 20/20. [Scooped by 'Mystery Gypt';

originally appeared in Variety.]

August 8, 2000... Comics2Film sent us a big juicy lead on the current status of this project -- and wouldn't you know it, there's still some life left in the ol' girl. After being forgotten about for a while because of a bad script (perhaps the one by screenwriter Mike Finch?), MTV Productions and Paramount Pictures have jump-started development again on the Aeon Flux flick. C2F hears

on good authority that writers Phil Haye and Matt Manfredi have been called in to to begin working "from scratch on a new idea." We've heard of these two dudes before: they were the ones who were hired to adapt the Japanese manga comic book Parasyte into a Jim Henson

Productions film; as well, they penned a spec script entitled Gateway to the Gods, a comedic look at the Greek gods returning to modern New York City, currently also in development at Paramount. C2F also informs us that producer Gale Anne Hurd is now working on the project in a producing capacity, in conjunction with MTV Productions.

C2F also tells us that the current Aeon Flux script "...is shaping up to be very MATRIX like in tone, but with an original concept that keeps within the spirit of the original MTV shorts and series."

[Big thanks to Comics2Film for curling our locks today.]

March 18, 2003... The director of GIRLFIGHT, Karyn Kusama, is in final discussions to helm the live-action adaptation of MTV's AEON FLUX.

Based on the cartoon series of the same name created by Peter Chung, AEON FLUX has been in development hell for a number of years at Paramount Pictures. Screenwriters Matt Manfredi and Phil Hay wrote their draft of an AEON FLUX film back in 2000, and it seems that's still the draft that Kusama will be working from.

AEON FLUX first debuted on MTV in 1995 as a series of short animated films following the exploits of female secret agent in a future society. The series quickly developed a strong following and soon the movie rights were picked up by producers Gale Anne Hurd, Bonnie Lee and Diana Phillips. Hurd's Valhalla Motion Pictures film production company remains involved in AEON FLUX's development process. [The Hollywood Reporter.]

February 27, 2004... In three days she will know if she's won an Oscar for her role in MONSTER but today Charlize Theron is making news for her interest in starring in the live-action AEON FLUX movie. The film has been stuck in development hell for nearly a decade and is based on Peter Chung's MTV animated science fiction series which featured an aerobatic assassin trying to oust the despot of a futuristic nation. If Theron does agree to star in the movie she could earn a paycheck of $10 million.

The film will be directed by Karyn Kusama (GIRLFIGHT) and Gale Anne Hurd (HULK) is producing. If everything works out the Paramount Pictures project will start shooting come July. [The Hollywood Reporter, Variety.]

March 15, 2004... It looks like Charlize Theron is making good milage out of her Best Actress Oscar: the South African beauty has inked a deal to star in a new drama titled CLASS ACTION, to be directed by WHALE RIDER's Niki Caro. Theron will play Josie Aimes, a Minnesota mother in the 1970s who gets a job at her town's local mine, only to find herself sexually harassed by the male co-workers and getting no help from the mine's management. Aimes eventually rallied the mine's female workers and brought a lawsuit against the company, all at the risk of alienating her family and being shunned by the populace.

But before Theron can move on to CLASS ACTION she'll be starring as the futuristic assassin AEON FLUX in the live-action movie. As prep continues for the production's start of filming in July, Theron is taking three months to get into shape for the part. She's being trained in acrobatics, one of the physical traits that the animated Aeon is known for.

Linda Hamilton would be proud! [Variety.]

June 8, 2004... FARGO's Frances McDormand is the second star to be announced for the live-action adaptation of AEON FLUX. McDormand will play a character called The Handler, the leader of a rebel group living in the last remaining human city on the planet. Charlize Theron will play the lead character which is based on the Peter Cheung animated series.

The first day of filming is scheduled for August in Berlin, Germany. [Variety.]

June 16, 2004... The French special effects house BUF Compagnie (say it with me five times) is in talks to handle the future look for Paramount Pictures' AEON FLUX film. If it lands the contract BUF will have a lot on its plate: in addition to creating the futuristic environment for the story the firm will also handle the previsualization tasks leading up to creating the effects and supervise the entire effects process from beginning to end.

BUF has an impressive track record. In just the last year the company has created digital effects for THE MATRIX RELOADED, THE MATRIX REVOLUTIONS, 2 FAST 2 FURIOUS and UNDERWORLD. It's also worked on dozens of French, European and American commercials as well as an array of music videos including Madonna's "Love Profusion", The Chemical Brothers' "Let Forever Be", and numerous ones for the electronica band Air.

Principal photography on AEON FLUX commences in August in Germany. Charlize Theron will play the freedom fighting assassin while Frances McDormand will play The Handler. [The Hollywood Reporter.]

REALLY, why not just grab the Current US acrobatics winner, and use her...
She is hot...probably not into acting much tho. She seems to be the classic Cali Airhead Blond.

I think Famke Janssen would be the best choice too. She matches the character almost perfectly and is uber hot. Theron isnt even a brunette!

Yeah she may not fit exactly, but it's a better call than the whole Jack Black as the Green Lantern thing. Jack Black's great....just don't remember a whole lot of comedy in the GL 'world'.

You've got to be kidding me............

Jack Black?

Green Lantern?

There are entirely too many things wrong with that.

Totally, thats as bad as John Cusak being the next Superman (which was reported in the early stages). I also heard that Nicholos Cage was considered to be the next Superman for a while too.

Thanks TecknoGeek. I didn't even consider the CGI idea, that would be interesting. FF was amazing, can't wait for Advent Children.

Oh..........Advent Children will be one of the most amazing CGI films to date!

For in depth info, go to www.Adventchildren.net
Although most info on the film has been shrouded by mystery.

And here's a clip, it's quite large but well worth it!
Advent Children trailer .avi

Advent Children trailer .mpeg

The film continues where FF7 left off. As anyone familiar with the FF universe knows, with the exception of the last few games, each installment in the FF series is always a new, original story, independent of the previous game.

This movie should give plenty of closure to that particular chapter.
