The only question I have is does the player need the computer to be on to connect to the internet radio stations? (The wireless network will still be avalable if it is off)

not sure about the Squeezebox, but the sonos from www.sonos.com does require a computer, the musica from www.olive.us does not, although I'd think that sometimes I might want to use it in connection with a computer, or a network to stream music from them.
