I think this is a huge overreaction on Jason's part and Molly's article is being read way too deeply.

She could simply be upset because it’s increasingly difficult to find content that has not already been covered (by Gizmodo and Engadget) for her "Buzz Report" column.

To say Cnet as a whole is out to "take down" Engadget is just plain silly. I am sure Engadget is of little concern to the giant.

Jason, I think you're misunderstanding my column. I absolutely agree with you--no one owns the news, which is why there are no secrets in technology, and which is why Engadget has such a large advantage over the slower-moving establishment. That's my point. Companies who labor under old-fashioned NDA agreements get scooped by the faster, more nimble blogosphere. That's the reason I read yours and other sites daily and either link or refer to them almost constantly, in both my columns and the Daily Buzz.

In no way would I or did I insinuate that you get paid to blog about products--in fact, there's absolutely nothing in my column about the ethics of blogs. It was a column about the changing nature of tech journalism, the intransigence of manufacturers, and the process of product reviews. You and your site are at the forefront of that change, and in my opinion, that's a good thing--and the establishment (including CNET) needs to wake up to the changes in front of its face. I hope you'll give the column another read, and I hope your readers will, too.

CNET.com has no need to try to take down Engadget. I think CNET has a whole audience that's beyond what Engadget has.
